Bloody Pedestrians

Was going into town this evening to get a few bits in the shop for my sister as she isn't feeling well and while in the town centre I passed a lady jogging who looked like a Christmas tree high vis stripes on her hat, her tracksuit, her shoes and a high vis jacket as well and while she didn't kinda look a bit silly I was still thinking fair dues she's well visible

Bout 20 mins later on the way to my sister I was driving on a dark narrow road with hi beams on and I thought I saw a dog or something on the road ahead the lights had picked up movement so I slowed down to around 5 miles an hour so that I wouldn't hit the mutt... only it wasn't a dog it was a pair of walkers out for their evening stroll both dressed head to toe in BLACK

When are people going to learn?
I know the stretch of road I was on was not a busy one (I didn't pass one other car on the 2 mile stretch this evening) but still.....

Am bloody furious, they gave me a right shock here was i looking for a bloody dog!

Know the feeling OP. If you choose to walk on the road a night where traffic travels, light yourself up!

Even here in the city, on a darklit road, I barely made out a bloke dressed in dark clothing who darted across the road.

Especially on wet nights, its very hard to see a dark figure walking on a road.

People are stupid. Pedestrians are particularly stupid. It doesnt seem to dawn on them that a) if its dark then they cant be seen in dark clothes, and b) no matter how right they might be in any given incident, when they come together with a large lump of metal travelling at 30mph+ there is only ever going to be one that comes out in reasonable shape. The amount of pedestrians that do not take responsibility for their own safety is frightening. Its a sad fact of driving, and one which we unfortunately just have to be vigilant about. Unfortunately some people just seem to have a death wish...

Which means that the 30kmh new limit in Dublin city won't make an iota of difference when it indeed passes through alot of areas where people are kicked out onto the street at 2:30am after a night out and those people are stupendously drunk.

Of course if we had 24hr drinking...

I had a close one myself during the week. I was driving through finglas and a large van infront of me was turning left ... so he stops as he's turning to let a school girl (who was already on the road) finish crossing. Half of the van was sticking out onto the road still, so I went to overtake him on the right lane ... who now appears right infront of me? Yep ... school girl not content with crossing one road now wants to go diagonal. It was ****ing close!!!

There should be on the spot fines for idiots who go walking on dark roads in dark clothing at night
I'm still annoyed at the 2 fools i saw earlier if I hadn't been literally crawling down the road looking for what i thought was a dog i could have killed them and of course it would have been my fault
Its not even a straight road lots of bends and twists if I had met them on a corner with a car coming against me they'd probably be dead now!

Walking 2 a breast on a narrow unlit road at night wearing dark clothes is asking for trouble IMHO

Muppets, i'm annoyed at myself too that I didn't stop and read them the riot act!

Was driving home there Wednesday night near Chawkes in Limerick and city bound traffic was at a standstill and I had just pulled out of chawkes (petrol station) and was getting up to speed and it was raining and some muppet from the halting site just walks straight out on to road and walk across to the other side of the road to a car stopped in traffic (luckily I saw him at the right time and didnt mow his ass down)

Constantly seeing cyclists on this stretch of motorway on weekends.

1+ on this - I especially love that they continue to walk in a row of 2 or 3 even when they see the cars coming and this is usually on the back roads where there is barely room for 2 cars.....................

I can only assume cyclists on motorways want to die. I can think of no other reasonable explination for it.

There should be no regulation or laws regarding this, people's common sense should prevail.
It's evolution at work and I believe we are undermining the whole principle by ensuring the survival of absolute dingbats that will drag down the gene pool.

No it shouldnt; not when it comes to motoring and pedestrians. Too many pedestrians/cyclists/motorists have no common sense so things need to be as regulated as possible.

I agree with person above who said it should be an on the spot fine for walking/cycling on a dark road at night in dark clothes and no lights. If they want to kill themselves then thats absolutely fine with me, but its the poor motorist who hits them has to live with that for the rest of their lives, or they could even cause an accident as a motorist swerves at the last minute to avoid them.

Well yes of course, was just being a bit cheeky there.
Agree with your point of view that the person hitting them is the one who suffers most.
As for people who say "let's put on some black clothes and go for a run in the dark down an unlit road", it used to be that nature took out people who didn't have the wits to survive with the abilities that where given to them.
Now they not only survive, but thrive and possibly become US president:
