Hey guys, a guy I know is selling his Boss ME50 effects pedal and I currently have none. It's got me thinking I'd like a good multieffects pedal. Looking online though I think I'll just buy something new. What would people think between the ME50 and ME70 or even a pod, theylook about 500 ish which is a bit steep if ya ask me. I'm looking at the prices on thomann and it looks like I'd be spending 300 plus.
I play a good bit of different stuff, mostly just messing around. A good effects pedal would brighten things up a bit more.

Cool. Any opinion on either, or which would be better?

    What amp do you have?

I've never liked Multi-effects all too much . had a zoom G2 1.u before - was okay but after getting my first valve amp i sold it asap.

Have a POD 2.0 on loan from a friend for anything at school (no amps allowed) and not too impressed ..

If I were you do yourself a favour and buy a Valve amp.

    Just my opinion though

That's the exact amp I have. Nothing special, just for myself in the house. So there probably wouldn't be a noticable difference in sound between pedals without a better set-up?
I'd prefer seperate pedals myself but I want to experiment and that would be pretty expensive at the minute compared to the alternative.

I have a Zoom G7.1 for a year now, very good price in Walton's on sale, and it has a lot of effects built in, including wah pedal.

I used to have seperate pedals starting off playing Guitar, but even second hand the prices are stupid and the idea of powering them and carrying them around just annoys me. I know how they work and what they do but in my opinion they are crazy money for what you get.

I don't get how you can say that about the price of pedals without anything to compare them to. If you're comparing an overdrive pedal to the overdrive modeler on a multi-effect unit, that's not a valid comparison at all.

Powering them is easy, and a board can be awkward to carry, but the quality, flexibility, and individuality of individual boxes is unparalleled.

So no one thinks much of any choice? I'm not able to try most pedals out. There's no music shop around with a selection of more than one. I might as well blind buy if that's the case. Adverts.ie is a good tip off. I spent well over an hour on it last night, looking at everything. Some serious bargains.

If you buy stuff second-hand, your gear will hold its resale value. I would say buying the wrong pedal now and then isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've been through a few tremolo pedals, 3 distortions, and 4 delays, and owning and selling ones that I didn't totally love taught me a lot more about gear.

I've actually never tried a pedal before buying it. I don't think it's that big a deal. Apart from things like overdrive, I reckon you can get a good enough opinion about pedals you're looking at getting by trawling things like YouTube and Pro Guitar Shop.com and watching videos. Things like overdrive are very context-based, but you're never gonna get your perfect overdrive pedal first go.

I really think a lot of people think of buying a pedal as too big a deal. If you buy smart and buy second hand, a pedal is currency itself when you're looking to change.

That sounds like some good advice there. I'll go from here I think and keep an eye out for bargains.

i started off with mulit-effects, then went to stomp boxes. il never go back to mulit-effects again. started off with a zoom g2.1, never liked it. then got an ME50, it was allright, didnt blow me away. The main problem i have with multi effects is you are limited to one manufacturer for ALL you effects. I use three different manufacturers in my chain, boss, blackstar and mxr. to buy all my chain from new costs around 500-600 but id take it over any multi effects any day.
Powering them isnt a huge issue though, i have 4 pedals chained together so they are powered of one plug. the blackstar does need its own supply allright. price wise, you do get what you pay for, second hand boss DS1's go for 30 euro, while tube screamers are around the 100 mark. like most gear, they sell for 50%-70% of what they were new depending on condition. thats my E0.02 anyway!

I have the ME-50. Really like it. Its got a sturdy metal casing and plenty of preset effects to play around with and edit. Does the job for me.
