Went into a BMW main dealer yesterday to get a quote for my 50k service.
Also want to get the rear brakes and the Air-Con microfilter done.
Fine, they said, we'll just be a moment......

2 minutes later, they come back with the estimate...... €783.09

Seriously.....I know it's all well and good to have your Beemer with a full history an' all,..... but 5 litres of oil costing €107.31... are they havin' a laugh??

Anyone on here know of a good mechanic ;);)
Rip-off republic is still alive and well.:D

They charge like 150 quid an hour. Shocking stuff.

Gee, that's bad. I pay approx €16 a liter for Castrol Edge Sport 10W60, and that's the oil for race engines (and M3/M5 engines, according to the carton)

I paid 30 euros for a mechanic to replace a busted driveshaft rubber boot and replace a thermostat in a Honda Civic - I supplied the parts. Ok it was a nixer but we're in a recession!

Dont know how dealers workshops survive charging those prices?

For €30 quid he must have been in dire straits.

Being the owner off an Merc c-class that cost for oil is about right as its most likely mobil 1 and main dealers do indeed charge silly money to look after your motor. My best advice is to use an independent spanner man who well always talk you through what needs doing and its cost.
Merc and Beemer main dealers on the other hand well do a lot off work not always telling you in advance what they well do.!!! as I found out to my cost.

Find a good mechanic in your area, source bits & bobs you need at local MF & keep all receipts in a little folder verifying oil @ X miles, filters @ X miles etc...In fairness many BMW's now work under CBS so the internal computer basically holds your hand as you go along...No need to spend the silly money to be like the 'Stamp Whores' as I call them. All reset modes for lights/dongs etc. now available online.

    Sorry(C ondition B ased S ervicing)

What series do you have? What engine is it?
Is it an inspection 1 or 2? What does the brake job include parts wise?

€107 isn't a million miles away from what you'd pay for 5 litres of 0w30 Castrol Edge and a filter yourself.

The garage I work in would do a job like that for around half that price.....
