There's an interesting article in today's Irish Times on three ultra-distance runners.

What I found most interesting was that the two ladies, not sure about the bloke, didn't get into running until fairly late in life, neither came from a background of running 'normal' distances.

    Hi there,

thanks Micilin Muc, very interesting article.

Was thinking of having a go at the Connemara Ultra in April myself.

nursing a sprained ankle after the Turf Guy Challenge and wondering how you manage to find the time for ultra training, might be April 2012 before I'd be ready. From those articles it seems the sectet is fitting the training in around your life. Fair play to them. Have any of you done the connamara ultra?

    Hi Ploughon,

welcome to Boards. We're trying to keep each thread on topic, so your Conn questions would be best addressed in this mentored thread. Best of luck with it.

Back to the three runners, good luck to them tomorrow, especially WoundedKnee of this parish. 39k every day for him, three-to-four hours runs before breakfast for Aisling; and this from runners who are coming to the game late in life, thats truly inspirational!

if Aisling Copinger is going for an Irish 24 hour record, I guess I will have to up my training if I am going to follow her lead and make it a bit harder for her ;)
Rumour has it that the Belfast 24 hour run will be at the end of July next year , not in August. More details soon.

Thanks for the 'good luck ' and that interview was done very quickly by phone and I don't run 39K everyday. At most I'd probably run it 3-4 times a week and even then it would be split between 2 runs except on weekends.

Wounded Knee , ever so modest , you are still Superhero material to many of us . We are so proud of your achievements and appreciate your continued support and encouragement to the rest of us. Great to see an article highlighting ultra endurance achievements in this country. :D Fingers crossed there will be more for them to write about.

My wife saw this article in the paper and asked me if I'd heard of any of these runners.

Yup, in fact I've met all of them in person. It's a small world, this Ultra running world.
