Looking to Rent A Room in Swords - reasonable costs?

Good morning to all,

I'll be in Ireland early next year for 6-9 months so will need accommodation. My partner will be with me but we arent fussy and dont want to spend too much(!) even though obviously we would want somewhere decent. We could manage with 1 room we share together, rather than a flat. Looking to stay in Swords area.

Does anyone know whats a reasonable weekly rent to expect, as I haven't a clue?Is it easy to travel to Dublin Town Centre from Swords? I could get a car but prefer not to bother, if transport links day and night are good. I havent been to Ireland for many, many years and dont remember much about it. And by the way, whats Rathmines like? cheaper/nicer than Swords, or not?Would be good to hear your thoughts and advice, thanks.

My advice is to live near where you travel a lot.

Prices can vary a lot, but if you look at www.daft.ie it will give you a very good idea (~90%) of what is available.

Swords has grown a lot with a population of ~30,000.

Ranelagh, Rathmines, etc. still have a lot of rental properties, generally of better quality that you may have seen previously. There has been an element of gentrification, would a good proportion of houses that were perviously in flats and bedsits now used by single housholds.

Both have a good choice of shopping, services, entertainment, etc., but the difference is that Rathmines has the city centre on its door step

Travel from Swords can be variable, although the Port Tunnel can be a blessing. However, it is designed to prevent car commuting - the inbound toll is €10 in the morning.

Hi Victor, thanks for the detailed reply, very much appreciated. At least I now have a good idea re. what to think about in deciding where to live. One last question - should I expect to pay a much higher rent in Rathmines or Ranelagh, as theyre nearer to the City Centre than Swords?
