i noted in the past few days these new private operated speed vans in and around the Dundalk area there is 2 different types of vehicles they are unmarked and there is no sign near by to tell that they are operating in the area as was ment to happen as stated on the release when they were shown on rte news, a few weeks ago. The one i saw is a silver renault master van 10 KY 2153 the other is either silver or white and is a 10 KK reg (did not get the number yet) on thurs night 04/11 both these vans were operating within a 2 km range of each other one out side PJ Carolls old factory on Dublin rd Dundalk and the other on Old Ardee rd Dundalk just as the road narrows. They have been in and around the area for the past 3 days, these are operating both NIGHT and DAY so u have been warned (revenue collection!!!!)

We have all heard, the Government put it to tender for a private company to run, therefore, they created it.

What???? They take photographs of you breaking the law? Here listen, the majority of those Gatso vans break the law while catching you breaking the law.

Here's the dare, if they're parked on a footpath, or grass verge, take a photo of it and post it on here! There are very little areas these guys can park legally and catch you doing ninety.

According to the press release on the Garda website they are to become operational in mid November, today is the 5th which seems a little soon. Also the locations are supposed to be listed on the website, I don't see them up there. Were these definitely speed vans?

The one on our road is always parked on the footpath. Its a 50 I was following a squad car the one day doing 70 in a 50 and no sirens or lights on (How do i know they were doing seventy?)

    Extremely unlikely.
I imagine a private company looking to make a profit for themselves and the state cofers would prefer to be shooting fish in a barrell on a busy good road

I heard Clarkson telling a great story one time, dont think it was on Top Gear, but it was about these lads in Denmark who strolled up to a Gatso van and told the cops that they were doing a project for secondary school and wanted to know a little about the van so the cops chatted to them there for a while etc...

while this was going on one of their mates was robbing the number plates off the van. They then put the plates on a car and proceeded to bomb up and down the road past the van breaking the limit umpteen times. The automatic system then generated a few grands worth of speeding fines addressed to the cops :D

Apparently they have to be at accident blackspots. They don't get commision for each motorist they catch and are only there to improve safety...Or so I've been told

I have been seeing these since july! they were testing one or two since July, Cork Street in Dublin as you head into town always has one on it in themornings, just a white van until you see the camera in the back window up close.

other locations ive noticed in past two weeks are Cherry Wood, on the way up to the M50 once you pass through the round about, and indeed once you come off at Cherry Wood and are driving down.

Also outside the Elenora pub in Driminagh, and couple other locations!
