Might get a better response in the Learning to drive forum,http://boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=909

When I did it from Woodview, we left Dave and Kay's, turned right onto the Cratloe road, then turned left into lower Caherdavin (bit near the Youth Centre), then up the hill by the Youth centre towards the Church, down the road parallel to the hill (blackthorn drive?), did the reversing around a corner there.

After that we drove back towards the Church, turned right onto Sheelin drive, and then right down towards Caherdavin FC's pitch and onto the Ennis road by the Greenhills. Think we turned at Ivans and onto the Condell road, back to test centre (may be via Salesians/Shelbourne road, not sure).

If you're doing your test I think you should consider giving about €30 to a driving instructor for at least one run around, while you're with the instructor get him to give you the usual routes that the examiner uses for that base.

tks guys. teaching the daughter to drive, very competent so far but she will be taking a couple of instructor school lessons when she applies for the test. just wanted to get her familiar with the location of the drive routes as mostly driving so far has been in and around city centre and Dublin Road/Dooradoyle areas.

I did 2 tests in Woodview..

First one. Right out of the car park, left down by the Caherdavin school, left at Ivans lights, right at the Centra shop, did hill start up there. Next right again, followed road around to the right. did reverse around the corner up there. Back down the hill, turn right, back onto Ennis road towards town. Turned right at Shelbourne road lights, left onto condell road, down henry street, turned right at lights down onto Clancy strand, then straight back to test centre.

Second one (which I passed), as above down by the school, but then took a left. Progressed past thomond park and turned right at the lights. Next right down that little road and continued along, did reverse on the next road to the left. After that, back onto Ennis road by the back of Gaelic Grounds. Turned right at Shelbourne road lights, right along by Ardscoil Ris, right up the side of the Clarion, left onto Ennis Road, right at Gaelic grounds again, and basically back to the centre from there.

I'm not trying to be smart (honestly), but why not follow a couple of the driving instructors from the Woodview centre when they are giving a lesson.
If your daughter keeps a safe distance behind them (and doesn't try to do a three-point turn at the same time as them) you will quickly learn the routes.

By the way, when she applies for the test can she specify a preference for woodview or mungret ? The mungret centre uses raheen/dooradoyle for the test.

I did think of that mgbgt1978, thanks - just trying to get the timing right to be off mid week to follow one around.

I wouldn't get too hung up on the route, what she needs is lots of practice on driving, yielding to oncoming traffic for parked cars, allowing other cars to come through where cars are parked on both sides of the road, turning left, turning right, taking off from a stop and yield at junctions, 3 point turn (it's not really but still referred as that), hill start and reversing on passengers side.

You can most of this in and around Caherdavin and Clareview most days and evenings.
