    Hi

Am taking in some Bedspread Sets and quilts from China and am just querying the Duty Rate

Ordinarily we pay 3-4% on these type of goods.

But this time we're being charged 12%

Why the massive difference in duty? Or is it a mistake?

    Hello Gavney1,

    please see this link http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/taric/taric_consultation.jsp?Lang=en&Taric=6302100000&Area=CN&Screen=0&Expand=true&SimDate=20101106.

If you click through to the item that reflects the materials you will get the customs tariff number and the corresponding duty rate, which for this section is 12%. That is clearly for bedlinnen. For quilts would need to do a bit more work. On the face of it they would probably be classified as blankets (6301 .......) which also appear to be 12%

Can you establish the customs tariff number used for previous customs entries ? If so, let me know and I will check.

On the face of it 12% appears to be correct but would need to see invoices and shipping documentation together with copy of previous customs entries in order to be sure.

    Best regards,
    Rudolf289
