I was chatting to the old man today about this article I seen on the south dublin forum to what could be a major oil find off the Dalkey coast line. The article suggests that Dalkey (or some area of it) could become a major hub for oil distribution. Another article hypothesizes the effects of the find if drilling is allowed to proceed. It suggests the possibility of building an oil terminal in the vicinity of Dalkey Village itself. If an oil terminal were to be built, the infrastructure within the area would need a massive revisit to cope with articulated oil trucks and to provide easier access to the M50. This would require the lifting of conservation areas in some parts to enable Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPO) so that the necessary development can be carried out. My dad and a few of his mates said they will invest as they know this arabic guy from work who comes from an oil country

No more recession in south dublin anyway;)

Have you ever seen the amount of planning objections filed against anyone trying to build anything in Dalkey? :p

If this was to try and go ahead, it would be stuck for years in the planning department..

I'd imagine the oil distribution might eventually get planning permission by at least 2098

Alright, if this is off the Dalkey coast....

Would it be *that* difficult to pipe it into Dublin Port, where existing industrial infrastructure exists?

Afraid not. It HAS to be Dalkey...

I would definitely vote in favor of turning Dalkey into a massive oil refinery.
