"Lockshield valve" What side?

    Hi planning on balancing the radiators soon.
    The rads have no caps on the valves on some and they are on different sises on others.
    What determines which is the lock shield?

    They are both lockshield valves, balance which ever side you don't use to turn off rad.

    whichever side is the cooler of the two is the one you use for balancing , leave the other side fully open

    Be careful. Because if these are missing there caps chances are they are the cheap rad valves(Even if potterton) meaning that dont have metal inserts in the caps

    What this means is the valve heads go soft when you turn them when rads are hot and you wear the threads quite rapidy.

    It would be worth you getting spare heads if you know the make of the valve..

    If not balance the system on low heat...

    The water really only needs to be circulating to balance the rads.
