Advice on car insurance premium

Didn't know who to really talk to about this so decided to post here and ask for any possible advice.

Basically I have been driving for 5 years now as a provisional driver down purely to my own lazyness having failed it first time round and having had to cancel dates that did not suit.

I have been driving for 3 of those years as a names driver on my own car, and for the last 2 years have been under my own policy. Over that entire period i have no claims at all.

I have recently been quoted at 900euro by quinn, which I find to be steep given my record and the fact that I have zero points on my licence. I know many of you will say thats a result of not having my full licence but i'v been told that if i do have this that the premium will only be reduces by between 100-150 euro so still reletively expensive I think.

My question is does anyone have any advice on cheaper car insurance for younger drivers, i'm 23, and aswell,do insurance companies take any consideration of named driver experience with no claims under this period.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Pass your test and €750 is not expensive for a 23 year old. What are you driving?

Also there are a lot of reports of Quinn going up in price this year and making no effort to budge in order to retain customers. The only answer is to get the phonebook out (dont bother with online quoting systems) and ring every company/broker you can find.

    And go pass your test!

I'm not sure if all companies accept named driving experience but I think some do. I'm fairly sure it was axa that will accept up to 5 years named driving experience & NCB.

    1. Pass your test

    2. Shop around for the best quote for the cover you need.

    Sorry, forgot to add that.

Driving a 1.2, year 2000 punto, worth no more than 1000euro.

Applied for my test today and know how stupid i am for letting it get this far without.

Just after getting a quote on easy quote for 722Euro from w/way standard, are these kind of quotes rubish usually?

I still think between 750 and 800euro for a 23 year old with 5 years experience, 2 years ncb and no penelty points is a bit much and thats only in comparrison to friends premiums on bigger cars, when i eventually get my licence.

    Appreciate the feedback.

You dont have 5 years experience. You have 5 years as a learner; its not the same thing. Pass your test and insurance companies will begin to take you seriously.

Like I said ring around and you may do better, but that kind of a quite for a 23 on a learners permit is not bad and I dont think youll do a while lot better tbh.

Tbh that's very reasonable. I'm 27, full license with a full ncb and only drive. 1.6 and I pay close on €700.

The value of your car isn't that relevant, it's the damage to a 3rd party you might cause in it.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Got it sorted in the last hour and did a bit of shopping around and found a significant difference with Axa.

Although im now getting it insured with just third party, and not fire and theft included the price has been reduced to 598euro which I'v been told wil be reduced to 445e when i get my full licence.

I was wrong about the difference in premium when i do get my full licence as it does drop by nearly 350euro with Quinn, but still not nowhere near as cheap as Axa were.

Thanks for the help anyway and i'v applied for the test again today aswell.

I got quoted €1600 fully comp from quinn for a 1.4 petrol focus. have 3 years experience as a named driver and passed the test last march. No penalty points and no claims. Now thats crazy money!

Im 26 by the way.... and male as if i need to say

Axa do seem to be one of the better companies this year. I am renewing at present and 123 decided to put my premium up by 300 and iv not had any accidents and am driving for 8 years(5 as named driver,3 in own name) and full license for the same time and im 26.
They wouldnt budge either said rsa the new under writers dont take account of named driver experieince which travelers did. I looked at about 20 diff companies and brokers and cheapest i can get is axa who are nearly 200 cheaper than 123. Paying 595 if go with axa on 1.8 tdci focus 03 which is still 100 more than last year.
