    Looking at this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/27/the-united-states-of-movi_n_774741.html

Got me thinking. Would it be possible to create a map for Ireland with a film set in for each of the 32 counties?

    Dublin - The Commitments
    Tyrone - Omagh
Kerry -Darby O'Gill and the Little People
    Down - Hunger
    Donegal - Dancing at Lughnasa
Cork - War of the Buttons
    Limerick - Angela's Ashes

    And I'm stuck now.
There's hundreds of films set in Rural Ireland in general with no particular county given.

Braveheart was shot in Kildare, Wicklow and Meath...

Yeah, but it was set in Scotland though.

    Galway - The Quiet Man

    I heard it hasn't changed a bit :D

Although it doesn't have a specific theme to the county

    Garage - Offaly

Thought you meant where was it filmed ;)

Think The Butcher Boy was set in Monaghan...

Waterford - The McKenzie Break, Barry Lyndon
Kilkenny - Barry Lyndon, Circle of Friends

Wateford as a theme would be "Mad Max"

    The Playboys - Cavan.

The Brylcream Boys was set in Kildare - although shot on the Isle of Man. Hate that movie, not just because it was bad but because it pissed away such a great idea.

Where was The Field set? I think it was Kerry or Clare but I'm not sure

I'm not sure if it says in the play or the film but it was based on a true incident which I am pretty sure was in Kerry.

Some of Crushproof was set in Wicklow.

    Disco Pigs, set in Cork.

Pretty sure The Field is set in Kerry, the play was anyway.

My home town Cahir or Cahir Castle to be precise was where Excalibur (1981) was filmed.

But alas, it was also the location of the dreadfyl Mystic Nights of Tir Na Nog TV Show back a few years ago :o

Think The Butcher Boy was set in Monaghan...

    Yes, in Clones.

Also - Antrim - Odd Man Out
The new Martin Sheen film "Stella Days" is set in Fethard, Co Tipp.
    Zonad was filmed in Wicklow.
Also I found an ancient comedy "The March Hare" filmed in Mayo.

You could probably do a map of Dublin, for all the films set there.

I must insist you remove 'the secret of kells' and replace it with 'fatal deviation'.

One was nominated for an Oscar; the other has this on Wikipedia: "The car crash towards the end of the film was not intended, but was included for dramatic effect" It was a hard choice.

Hunger is in the wrong place. That's Derry not Down. Put 'Bloody Sunday' in for Derry.

The Purple Taxi is pretty poor, whereas the McKenzie Break is pretty good.

A part of the Secret of Kells is also in Cavan, since Crom Cruach's plain of worship with the twelve standing figures was in that county.

Most of the film, including the film maker's family.

But that's set in Scotland, so it doesn't really count.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Ryan's Daughter yet

Loved that film and it was a massive project at the time
Filmed on Dingle Peninsula and beautiful shots of the area

Set in Cong Co Mayo. Everyone seems to assume its set in Connemara for some reason.

It's not specified in the movie where is it set.
But it was filmed mostly in and around of village of Leenane in North Galway, with some scenes filmed in Mayo.
F.E. the scene where the Yank is killed by Bull near the waterfall, was filmed by Aashleigh Falls in Mayo, near Killary Harbour.

But the play was set in SW Ireland, so I think it should be left there.

I've never seen the play. I didn't even know there was one.
But The Field movie is closely linked to that region. In Leenane bars there lots of pictures hanging on the walls taken while the film was being made. And all local people know it's a local movie ;)
That's why it's annoying me a little bit that someone here is trying to locate it in Kerry, as the movie had nothing to do with Kerry.

Heh, I remember that, they got a load of locals and secondary school students to play zombies.
