Huge pores

Does anyone know of any good creams or facemasks to combat big pores?

Had gotten very bored of my make up, bought some new (expensive) foundations to try shake it up a bit, and make my skin look a bit nicer, but none are working so I think the problem is my actauly skin in general

I have huge pores everywhere, they look awful :( Have never done anything about them before but think its time !

I have the very same problem, mostly around my nose and between my eyebrows.
The combo I use to make my pores virtually dissapear, is the L'oreal Studio Secrets Resurfacing Primer (holy grail product for me), and Macs Mineralise Skinfinish Natural as a finishing powder over my foundation - it's worked wonders for me!

I actually use the loreal primeralready, and I do agree its great for an hour or two but half way through the day my pores are just as bad as before :(

Is there any way to actually reduce their size? Ive bought so much make up over the last month to try combat it, that I only have a small budge unfortunately. I'd like to kinda make them smaller rather then trying to hide them with make up ;)

Invest in getting a good facial done every month or two where they extract pores and blackheads as this will really help. Then get a good pore scrub and use once or twice a week to keep your face clean!

Think there's a pore gel in The Body Shop as well that's meant to be very good but haven't tried it!

Oh I agree L'oreal Studio Secrets primer is brilliant :D But I would recommend sorting out your skin before. You should follow these steps.

Cleanse. Stop using that bar of soap and remember to wash your face every night! Proper cleansing keeps your pores clean by removing dirt and oil from the surface of the skin. Use a gentle foaming cleanser if you have normal-to-dry skin and emollient cleanser for dry and sensitive skin.

Exfoliate. Approximately every three weeks, new cells surface from the lowest layer of the skin. Sometimes old cells stick around longer than they should. Exfoliation helps the natural process along by giving those cells little extra push. Try exfoliating by using a face scrub, every other day for oilier skin and once a week for sensitive skin.

Tone. If you have normal-to-oily skin, use an alcohol-free toner that has glycolic acid as well as Witch Hazel. This will create the shrunken-pores effect you're after!

Deep Cleaning. Once a week use an exfoliating or clay-based tightening mask.

I go by these steps and my skin has been great ever since :D

Oh no I don't wanna come across as someone who jsut doesn't clean my skin properly:eek:

I use Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser, with a muslin cloth morning and night.

I don't tone as my skin is quite dry, shall try get better at doing it. I use clinique dramatically different moisturiser morning and night.

Will definitely invest in a mask, is there any you could recommend? I have normal skin, but it can get dry around my nose and forehead quite easily.

    Thanks:)

    Hey,

My bet is that the clinique moisturizer could be the problem!
I tried their moisturizer (the yellow cream in pump bottle) before and it made my normal/dryish skin nearly oily.Would be fine when i'd put it on but 2 hours later = grease ball! :o Pores got bigger and makeup use to slide off... :(

Have tried a few since, but am now happily using este lauder day wear plus. (which is on special in Dublin airport for €24 at the moment! ;))

You can't actually "shrink" your pores but you can reduce their appearance with proper skincare, exfoliation in particular. As you mentioned using muslin cloths twice a day, I don't think you need any more physical exfoliation. I know some people swear by it, but scrubbing your skin is very harsh.

Chemical exfoliation with AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) would work very well to improve the appearance of large pores. You can find AHAs in many skincare products (glycolic acid mentioned above is an AHA). However, AHAs need to be at a certain concentration and pH level to be effective. Of course, you're not told this information on labels so I would be wary of just going ahead and buying any product that has an AHA in the ingredients. I know that Paula's Choice products are formulated with the correct pH/concentration and also a brand called Alpha Hydrox. As far as I know you use these products like a night time lotion -after cleansing your face. I don't know a whole lot about those because I haven't used any products like that, they are supposed to give great results though. (If you are acne prone, you may want to look into BHAs over AHAs)

Anyway, keeping in mind that you are on a low budget (and if you're anything like me, want to research something before you go out and buy it but want to start improving your skin right now) you can try using facemasks containing AHAs found in food and see how they work for you.

    From Wikipedia:
AHAs most commonly used in cosmetic applications are typically derived from food products including glycolic acid (from sugar cane), lactic acid (from sour milk), malic acid (from apples), citric acid (from citrus fruits) and tartaric acid (from grape wine)

I find home-made masks work really well for me. My favourite is yogurt (lactic acid and zinc) mixed with lemon juice (citric acid). But please be careful using things like lemon and apple cider vinegar. You can damage your skin with these if you don't dilute them properly, or leave the mask on too long, and sensitive skin can react badly to even small amounts. Always be cautious until you know how your skin will react. Wow anyway, I think I have typed enough for now and there's a lot of information on natural skincare online, but if you would like any specific "recipes" just ask :)

FINALLY, all exfoliation will increase your skin's sensitivity to light so keep that in mind with regard to sunscreen.

Proactive Refining Mask is really good, its the only one i found to work and is only €14.95 so its pretty cheap.

so what exactly do these do? hide them or remove them? for instance you meet your future husband on a night out, move in with each other, you wear the disguide 24/7??? in other words stop worrying, there are more important things in life:)

Sorry I didn't mean it to sound bad :o I did a hair and beauty course and I got taught a lot about caring for the skin you don't need a whole lot of potions and lotions, cleanse. tone, moisturize and exfoliating is more than enough :D Hope it all helped.

I tried it as well and found the same thing.
    Definitely recommend a different one

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

Didn't even think of the clinique moisturiser being the problem, I've been using it for about 3 years now, if not more :o

I'll try mixing it up a bit, kinda hope this is the problem, so easily sorted :P

    Thanks again :)

hi! can you recommend a place for facial where they will extract the blackheads? hopefully one that is good (i will not break out after) and reasonably priced. thanks!

I had a great facial in Zenergy on Fade St recently - a deep cleanse one, and she did extraction. They have some great special offers on too.

I was in the exact same situation as you about 2 years ago. Up until then I only ever wore make up when I went out and sure I'd be half pished so I wouldn't notice if my make-up had slid away.
Anyway, I changed jobs to one where I'm required to be fully made up at all times and suddenly I noticed how desperately difficult it is to maintain a face full of make up for more than an hour.
I've been using Vichy Normaderm facewash products and found they have improved my skin immensely. It's about €13 for a bottle but a little goes a long way so you can make that bottle last for almost a year! I don't rate the normaderm moisturiser though, so I'm using Clarins Ultra Matte rebalancing Lotion and once again, serious stuff. They also have a Pore Minimizing Serum which I bought but I haven't noticed any improvement from using it for about 6 weeks so I think it was just a gimmick.
Tried numerous primers but I always come back to Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. Smashbox Photo Finish is worth a look too but because I work stupidly long hours it just seems not to give my make up the staying power I need but it does a great job of hiding large pores in the short term.

Finally with regards to foundation I'm using Clarins Everlasting Foundation (not a Clarins plant, I swear!) But my friend who has same skin also recommends Dior doublewear.

    Hope this helps!
