Gearbox for 07 Seat Leon

Does anyone know where I can get a gearbox for a 07 1.4 Leon?

The car started making a bit of a scraping noise this morning on the way to the NCT (which it passed), so I decided to take it to a garage and get my new noise checked out. Turns out, the gearbox is not healthy. It still drives, but a bearing or something is fecked inside.

Its gonna cost around 2k for a new one (car is out of warranty since January). And a second hand one would be much the same price as a rebuild.

So anyone know where I could get a gearbox?
Or why would it go bust? It only has 70000 km done of normal everyday driving.

A rebuild will be the cheaper option - €800-1000. May also be worth getting the clutch done at same time. Don't touch one from a scrap yard or anything - chances are you'll wind up with it again.

I had mine start making noises at 78k km and was told drive on by the dealer. Had it last year at 102k km as the noise was noticable when driving. And that was 90% motorway driving too so not rallied or anything. The guy that did mine said VW boxes are his bread and butter.

Has the car a FSH? Mine did and was completely ignored by Seat for a good will gesture. They really are brutal like that.

Winds me up whenever I see these threads as they have been knowingly selling faulty goods for years and couldn't give a monkeys:mad:

The garage I mention is a Seat garage where I bought the car, and got all its servicing done. They've put the claim in VW in Dublin who deal with this kinda stuff, but he reckons they won't do much. I'll know after a few hours I guess.

@EPM, what was up with your box? Or why did it go? Do you reckon its OK to stay driving?

Bearings gone. Basically could hear a chattering like noise at idle, when I pushed in the clutch it would stop. Caused a bit of whining in 1st and 2nd on take off.

You'll have zero hope from VW - they really are miserable. I emailed the info address looking for an address to send some of my information on, was given the details. Forwarded all my details on and never got a reply. They refused to cover something for me 2 weeks out of warranty.

Make a (polite) big song and dance about this. It is a very well known issue and they should be covering it, especially with such small mileage and FSH.

Indy is the cheaper route though for repair, and if it really is noisy I'd hold off driving on it. That was the advice given to me as it can result in irrepairable damage.
