Internet Explorer 'hijacked'

When I go to site from the Google or Yahoo search engines, sometimes my browser is redirected to other 'spam' websites. They seem to take what I'm searching for and then redirect to different sites. I checked the IP of this 'redirection' server, and it sources to Russia. I have checke my 'HiJackThis' output, but cannot for the life of me see anything out of the ordinary.

    Anyone come across this?

    download, install & run :

    1) ms security essentials
    2) spybot search and destroy
    3) google chrome or firefox

    and

    4) never use Internet Explorer again

Thanks dude. I've been using IE since version 2.1 or whatever the heck it was, but I'm finally seeing that it's just not the best browser. It crashes a lot but I just put up with it in the past because I'm a stubborn oaf.

I'll install the other tools when I get time and report back.

    Thanks

No worries. The first two should sort out your problem (and the price is right).

I'd strongly recommend you giving chrome even a quick go though. If you don't like it you can always just uninstall / don't bother using it but it's worth gambling 2 minutes of your time... it's very likely you'll get those 2 minutes back many, many times over!

Im going to install Chrome, as per your recomendation. I'm so fed-up with IE now that I'm not going to bother living with it anymore. Time for a divorce!

Christ, what the hell was I doing using IE for so long? Chrome is a dream to me. It is yet to crash and transitions between pages are much quicker.

I wiped IE CLEAN off my hard-disk.

Microsoft have released details of ANOTHER security flaw with IE,I know the article is from the Daily Mail but here it is http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1352271/Microsoft-security-flaw-affects-900m-people-using-Internet-Explorer.html

I installed Firefox on a mates computer as it's safer but his wife thought it would "break" it because it wasn't from microsoft and went back to IE.Some people are too stupid to help at times.

Firefox is safer, if you install the add ons, otherwise, in general, its just as vulnerable as IE. Clicking a link is clicking a link no matter what browser you use (unless it has a security sandbox built in by default but then, you'll still want to bypass that to save files and whatnot).

ah yes, the daily mail. For when you want you technical references to have guesswork and blame mixed in.

    MS advisory:
    https://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/2501696.mspx

    Fixit:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2501696

also note: Chrome and Firefox are not vulnerable in their default config but can be depending on whether or not you've installed a MHTML capable plugin. (like IE page for Firefox I would imagine- but I could be wrong)

I got rid of IE from day one and use Firefox with the add ons plus decent antivirus and full malwarebytes suite so should be safe enough but as usual I am selective in what I view online and download, common sense plays a huge part but if people are stupid then they deserve viruses.
