Power steering failed?

    Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out with this.

I drive a 99 Fiesta and have never had any problems with it. Yesterday I got into it after work and drove about 20 metres when the steering got really heavy. I'm not sure if it failed altogether or if the power steering just failed but it felt like I couldn't move the steering wheel at all.

I coasted to the side of the road and stopped and noticed my battery light was on. I had just pulled out from a junction so I thought maybe I had stalled the car without noticing but the engine was still running and my lights and radio were still on. I turned off the engine and started the car again and everything was back to normal.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? I know when my engine is turned off I have no power steering but yesterday the engine was running while this happened. I'm obviously worried that this might happen again except at a much faster speed.

    Thanks,
    Ergo.

Sounds like your auxiliary belt is after going. Just get a new one and anyone who knows anything mechanical about cars will be able to put it on. If your in the likes of AA they might do it for ya if you have the part.

Failing that get it towed to an Indy mechanic, it's a 5 min job.
