dont know about your right to a refund, but whenever you buy tyres in the future, make sure there is a little e number on them, not sure but i think its a european standard thing. If tyres dont have this theyll fail the nct. an awful lot of these cheap chinese tyres have no european safety cert and people are being caught out all the time.

Tyres without the e mark can't legally be sold in this country. Check if the e mark is present first and if its not go back to the retailer and demand.a full refund.

Got 2 tyres the other day for my sister's Fiesta and was talking to the tyre fitter who was saying that these cheap branded tyres from the far east are what are selling these days. People are skint so they just want the cheapest rubber possible on their cars which is very worrying indeed especially at this time of year when you need them the most.

BTW there are plenty of E rated tyres on sale that are still crap. They just about meet minimum EU standards. However I would not put any of that Chineese or similar rubbish on my car, I'd pay a little bit extra for a recognised middle of the range brand instead. Good tyres and brakes are all that keep you on the road.

Wanli and Nangkang are generally regarded as a euphemism for bad tyres. You will also find them referred to in other terms such as "comedy tyres", "banana skins" and "ditch-finders"

As for your specific question: if you get a puncture or sustain damage from running over something, no matter how harmless you thought it was, it's your fault. Sorry.

    ^^^

"Banana skins"' brilliant, made me laugh!!!

I'ev heard of the other 2 names, but banana skins, excellent.

@OP, Buy some Falken FK452's an excellent "premium budget" tyre on www.camskill.co.uk . Ive gone through 2 sets, cannot fault for the price vs grip

I didn't know there was a place called Athlone in Japan!

BTW: Good luck with Fastfit, I went to that same place years ago when they were called Quikfit and I never went back since.

    He was correct.

You hit something, it could happen to anyone at any time with new or old tyres.

Get over it and pay for a decent tyre the next time and stop trying to save a couple of euro fitting wanki tyres or similar

Tbh I don't think the brand of tyre is the issue here, if you hit an object on the road, any tyre can be damaged. Side walls are designed to take the weight and pressure of the tyre, they are not designed to take direct impacts.

I think I see your problem.

You get what you pay for - a decent brand of tyre won't fail when you drive over a soft drink can.

Rubbish of course, as explained in my post above. Its just unfortunate that the way he cought the can cut the sidewall.

If his tyres are high profile then all brands will have soft side walls prone to puncture damage especially from sharp objects, and if they are low profile tyres then it doesn't matter a damm what brand they are, if the tyre gets compressed against the rim by a bad pothole, kerb or object on the road then the plies will be damaged.

were a chinese make called wan-lei or something..

Bought a car a few years ago and they were put on by the garage, obviously just to say it had new tyres but doing it on the cheap. They were simply the worse tyres I ever had the misfortune to use, no grip in any kind of road conditions, the traction control light on the dash was always lighting up in greasy conditions. Got rid of them fairly quickly.

It's probably due to a hard rubber compound being used combined with cooler temperatures in this part of the world. For all we know they may be OK in Asian or African countries where the temperature is higher and the tyres are warmer when in use. However that's no excuse for the way they behave here!

WANLI tyres are probably the worst of them all, very noisy, no wet grip, horrible bumpy ride. The only good thing is that they last forever, or is that a bad thing.....
