this pop up keeps appearing on my cousins 3GS.
the phone is just sitting there, not connected to anything and it will pop up for a few seconds every 30 seconds or so.

    common bug?
ive done a restore through iTunes to no avail, and its just out of warranty too :(

    any ideas?

    iPhone 3GS
    4.1 firmware
    factory unlocked

a google search seems to think that its dust and lint in or around the dock connector, so gona try clean that out for him.

Apparently its to do with the dock connector coming into contact with water or bend pins. Going on what advice is said over at Apples forum, get a clean toothbrush, some compressed air, and brush off the dock connector and blow air into it. Works for some, might be of some help.

But make sure that it's a dry toothbrush because Apple have installed a water detector in there, it changes colour when hit by water and if it does then that is interpreted by Apple as a full dunking and they will refuse a warranty claim or (since you say it's just out of warranty) if it's being repaired by Apple for payment they will insist on a complete inspection which will cost more for even the smallest repair.

Perhaps your cousin isn't optimised for the iPhone. Have you considered new cousins?

It done me head in so much I got a Galaxy that charges with any charger, not some special retard icharger that needs to be hand crafted by mossad virgins.

I just left mine off for a day and it fixed itself. I knew it was water in the connector though so I assume it just dried out

I'm far more likely to find an iPod charger in a random persons house than a micro USB. That will change over time, but for now iPod FTW in that regards.

Mini USB, Micro USB, or their own implementation of USB?
