VRT VW Passat

Just been to NCT centre to vrt my passat. Its a 2005 1.9 tdi trendline 130 bhp. I used the vrt calculator online and it comes in around €1300 (stat code was 44085311). After the chap in NCT centre inspected it he arrived back with a bill for over €2000. When I questioned this I was told that to appeal I had to first pay this amount due. I phoned revenue and eventually they told me that the stat code they used was 41886162 and that it is the 6 window (excuding front and back screens) code. This stat code is not on the vrt calculator so the unsuspecting victim here has to pay an extra €700 odd. The code I used matches exactly, and I thought all passat saloons had 6 windows, having checked photos on carzone down to 1998 models. One would be forgiven for thinking that this is a bit of a scam on behalf of revenue given that passat is the most imported car, what better one to rip off unsuspecting taxpayers on. You dont find out until you present car for inspection. Anyone got any thoughts on this

Its the old type 1998 to 2005, the calculator recognises it as 2000 to 2005 tdi trendline 130 ps

Rebooked another inspection at another NCT centre, the amount calculated in this instance was €1296, just as I had calculated on the revenue vrt calculator. This makes the Limerick centre trying to overcharge the vrt by almost €800. When I questioned this I was told to payup and appeal the amount through the revenue appeals procedure, something that might take months. Couldnt explain to the guy that the amount was way out, youd think he would have an idea off the top of his head given that he does this every day. Also he refused to recheck it for me, and would charge me a reinspection fee if I left, most unhelpful. It also raises question of transparency of vrt calculation, given that revenue have a duty to apply taxes fairly.

I will be in next Tuesday myself, have my print out from Revenue website so lets see what happens!
I think that these boys are totally pulling the pee and hoping people will not appeal.
Private company taking over state run jobs, can we look forward to the same kak with the private cameras!
