My 99 astra needs three of these replaced and one flexi pipe all at the rear of the car. I have just failed the N.C.T  because of them, anyway I was going to have a go myself but found out just now that I'll have to get the metal pipes made up. They cost 60 euro each to get made at the local garage plus another 27 for the flexi hose and 15 or 20 euro for brake fluid, so about 230 for parts.
I would like to know how long it would take (how many hours labour) to do this ? I might give him the whole job if the labour is not to expensive and its to dark and wet to go have a look under it to see whats involved now.
    Any advice welcome thanks.

Sometimes the fuel tank will have to be dropped to get to the metal pipes. Its not a small job.

Have you checked they are corroded? And the level of corrosion?

Nct is only a visual test and like most cars they are probably caked in muck and crap. There may just be a small bit of surface rust on them.

If it is just some surface rust, sand them off, clean up and paint on some rust treatment.

Probably best to replace the flexible pipe...

    Thanks for the answers lads.
I've been under the car since and have cleaned the muck off the lines, thankfully the petrol tank is not in the way. I have got a new flexi pipe but I think its the wrong part, anyway the only wear I can see on the old one is at the union with the metal line where its corroded and maybe a bit of elbow greece will sort that too.
Is offside drivers side and nearside passengers side by the way?

Its not necessarily a huge job to sort. With the right tools you can simply replace a section of the steel brake pipe, you don't need to change the whole pipe.

You will have to replace the pipes indicated by the NCT, just cleaning them won't do. If the corroded pipes were spotted prior to the test you might have gotten away with cleaning/painting them. Once they fail they must be replaced. Also €60 per pipe just to make them up not fit them is over the top IMO.
