Im in first year in England, dont like my course, am quitting at Christmas and applying to the CAO again.
But I've been told that if I am repeating first year again Im liable to pay tuition fees. Is this more money on top of the probable 3000Euro for registration next year? And does anyone know how much the tuition fee is?

If you did first year in England then Im guessing you didnt get the course through the CAO which means that you havent gotten any free education from the state which means you shouldnt have to pay tuition fees. As an Irish citizen by applying through the CAO you get up to 4 years of free education (a standard Honours Degree) If you fail one of those years and have to repeat or if you drop out and change course you are liable for the new tiotion fees up to the point where you had been. If that makes sense?

Tuition fees Im not sure of the amount but it is several thousand as far as I am aware.

well I got my first choice at DCU but I never took it because I thought the course here in London would be better. I dont think that anymore, so I want to go home. Therefore Im leaving here at Christmas, and applying to go to college in Dublin in Sep 2011.
So do you still think that Im not liable for tuition fees?
    Thanking you :)

The tuition fee for EU nationals this year is around 2,300.

The details of who has to pay the fees are here:

The fees for 2010/11 are here, and this is on top of the registration fee (1500 this year, possibly rising to 3000 next year):

sorry but this still isnt very clear with regards to me having studied for a short time in england. in theory, the Government still owes me 4 years of "free education" right?

thanks for your help tho :)

the government (ie the TAXPAYER - lets remember who's actually paying) owes you nothing. However, they should be willing to pay for four years of 3rd level for you :) I doubt you have to pay fees if you did first year there (UK), unless you have some strange sort of set up whereby you were technically on an exchange of some sort although I doubt it. Looks like you're in the clear. Unless tuition fees are introduced for next year.
