Gas oven won't fire up

I have an old, but still functioning, New World gas cooker.

Everything's fine with it except that the oven has stopped firing up; i.e. the pilot flame comes on, but I don't get the full flare of gas necessary to cook with.

So, any advice on what I need to do to fix this? A call to the Cork Gas Centre got the response that it's definitely a valve gone, and that'll cost 180 Euro please. From what I read online, though, there are other possibilities.

Contact details for someone in the Cork area who might handle a small job like this would be welcome also. Thanks!
