You'll need a roamer and a strong stomach mininium for the navigator. Car can be standard (but won't survive without a stout sumpguard and proper tyres).

You'll be better off joining a motor club that does them and people there will guide you. Some clubs run classes.

Both Driver and Navigator need MI/FIA competition licences. Contact Motorsport Ireland and/or your local motor club (and join your local motor club for a 50% discout on the licence)

According to the rule book, all cars must be road legal, Tax and NCT. Most insurance policies will not cover the event, so you'll have to get IRDS (Irish Rally Driver Scheme) insurnace. Motorsport Ireland can advise and you'll have to take it if you want to start the event. It costs usually less than €40, depending on loadings.

No, but it is adviseable to join one as you'll get a discount on your competition licence and there will be people there who have competeted on them and will guide you

You will not be allowed start without IRDS and personal accident insurance. They are covered in the entry fee. The event secretary has them in place, all you've got to do is sign on the dotted line at the event and have applied for your IRDS insurance allready (and it's free to get. You pay IRDS per event, not a flat charge per year)

OP, I've been stuck on the organising committee for night navs for years and have done the results for countless ones. They are great craic to do. The events are fierce competitive, but there is good comradeship usually at the events. They usually take place in Cork or in Cavan/Monaghan and if you start to compete, there will be a Saturday night that you will not see any bed, believe me getting home at 8 in the morning is not unusual.

The next event in Cork is the Carbery Nav, 11/12 Dec which is ran by the Skibbereen & District Car Club. Then next two are in the new year, one mid Jan and the other mid Feb.

Helping out is a good way to see what's involved in these events. PM me if you want more info. I'm also from Cork and my arm is being seriously twisted into navigating on that event (even if my stomach isn't the strongest in the world)
