    Hi all

I've been in East Africa for the last year, spending most of my time in Kenya. I am now living in Nairobi and I like to think that I know the place pretty well. I just thought I'd chance it and ask if anyone needs me as an on the ground contact in this region, for example, maybe you own a clothes shop and would like to inquire about importing clothes or textiles etc. If I can be of any assistance....

    Sean

Yes that's my real name and no, I'm not a Nigerian prince.

    Hello african prince sean
whats the general business climate over there and how is the economy doing? have you seen much small scale western investment on the ground?

Business seems to be booming in Nairobi at the moment if the number of posh cars plying the streets is anything to go by! But the only small scale western investment I've seen so far has been in the hospitality & tourism sector, with new European & Asian restaurants popping up all over the city, especially Italian restaurants - they seem to be everywhere.

The most popular nightclub here is owned by a Belgian, and the most popular bar is owned by a Swiss I think. All along the coast you have bars and hotels run by Europeans also - my friend just recently opened up a hostel on the coast (Mombasa).

I'm sure there is a lot more than that, but I am not involved in the corporate world so have no info on that. But I can tell you that the Indians run the show here...

How about having a flick through www.businessdailyafrica.com/

    Mombasa is a kip.

If Mombasa is a kip why is it so popular with tourists? The city center is a bit of a kip but once you get into the outskirts to the beaches north or south of the city it's great. It may not be as developed as the European seaside resorts like Costa del Sol etc. but Mombasa does lack the scummier lager lout tourists you find on the Spanish coast, it's much more relaxed.
