Conas atá sibh, apologies if ive posted this in the wrong place. Im pretty new to the acoustic guitar, unfortunately my low E sting broke the other day, now forgive my ignorance but would it be ok just to replace the broken string or would I end up with a slightly different sound from the rest? Also I was looking at strings on Waltons website and saw there are "light" "extra light" "medium" etc, could anyone clear up the diffrences they make to sound etc, again excuse my ignorance but as I said im pretty new to the guitar and dont know all the ins and outs yet.

    go raibh maith agaibh

You could just replace the Low E but if the stings are old you may as well replace the whole set (strings begin to sound dull the older and dirtier then get.)

In terms of lite, medium etc, this refers to the thickness or gauge of the strings. They do effect the sound and the feel of the guitar but it's really a personal preference. I prefer lite to medium and brands I like are Elixir and DR strings

As 7daze says, you can replace just the one string but it will sound much brighter than the older ones on there.

Lighter gauge strings are softer on the fingers so great for beginners.
Heavier gauge strings are louder with more tone and can take more attack from your rhythm hand.

We don't really use the whole light, medium, heavy descriptions too much because they vary a lot from brand to brand. Instead we list by gauge of the thinnest strings to the thickest. So for example a (11-52) set is lighter than a (12-54) set and so on.

Go for Bronze wound, you can try Phosphor Bronze later.
D'addario or Martin are the biggest selling brands and expect to pay around 5 Euros but not at Waltons :D
D'addario have a nice colour coding system that will help a beginner with re-stringing.

Elixir strings are coated and expensive. I wouldn't worry about these just yet.
DR strings are a premium handmade string so they are more expensive.

Just to check - I assumed your acoustic Guitar was steel strung and not a Nylon strung Classical Guitar? Never put steel strings on a Classical Guitar
