Correct me if im wrong, but didnt money in the bank get one of the lowest ppv buys ever?

And the themed ppvs have been a little dire?

from previous reports I had the notion that MITB was being axed and would instead the MITB match would stay on the mania card but i guess not. Obviously these things can change afterall there wasnt supposed to be a Survivor Series this year at all apparently.

I was quite interested to see the number of PPV and how they are spaced out again this year. The build to PPVs and buyrates suffer as a result of having PPVs so close together but i guess 2 bad buy rates > 1 good buyrate for the WWE atm.

HIAC imo suffered from the above, given time to build to that event it should get great buyrates and see the culmination of big feuds before the build to Survivor series feuds happen on the way through bragging rights. However with only 2 weeks between NOC and HIAC instead the PPV just seemed like a hangover from NOC but this time for some reason in a cell. The PPV didnt seem nearly as significant as it could have but i guess if they were going to place any minor PPV so closely after another PPV then they thought HIAC could draw on name value alone.

The mitb should be kept to being a WM match only.
Downgrading it to having its own ppv is stupid. Hope your right BH and they call it off.

I miss the days when some one would be having a real heated feud and at some point someone says
"Im sick of you running/this is going to need a/im going to rip you apart/
so its going to be a HELL IN A CELL MATCH!"

Cue opponent either looking sadistically happy or cacking bricks.

That element of surprise is missing so much these days.:(

The thing is though even with this many PPVs if the creative team booked it properly you could have a feud go over several "smaller" PPVs (with a twist/turn in them to explain why it goes to the PPV) and have the blow out in the big PPVs.

That how ever would require thinking ahead of how the feud is going to be played and be consistent; something which creative is not...

Should have done away with Bragging Rights and have a strong build for Survivor Series.

It wasn't Survivor Series, it was the PPV after King of the Ring (Fully Loaded 2000, Invasion 2001). And it was Backlash, not Wrestlemania

They can still change the names of the shows if they want. This will probably be decided at the next quarterly meeting for shareholders.

Sky Sports can show 5 PPV's since the new contact came in so I'd say the way Sky showed PPV's last year will prob be the same:
    • Royal Rumble - Sunday, January, 30, 2011 -Box Office
    • Elimination Chamber - Sunday, February 20, 2011 -Box Office
    • WrestleMania* XXVII - Sunday, April 3, 2011 -Box Office

Don't tend to buy the so called B pay per views but if MITB is changed to PPV I would buy that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Remember lads these are tentative dates and names. It's very possible that they could change the name of a couple of their PPVs around, but really what's locked in are the main staples and all the dates.

I'm sure WWE will re-think Bragging Rights when their PPV buy # comes in. We're looking at really, really bad numbers here. Domestic probably 90,000; so maybe under 130.

I remember the days when all 12 were on Sky Sports. Also the days when In Your House PPVs were not shown at all. Missed a good few very good matches when they did not show IYH.

Wm X7 was on channel 4.
But that was the only one, of course. :)

I don't think so.... I'm almost certain it wasn't. Backlash 2001 definitely was however.

I never had sky at home, even today I don't in my mothers.
I see wrestling by streaming, or my dads.

And I remember watching 17 and school the next day telling everyone about it.
Like seeing the montage at the very end with my way playing over it, I was amazed at the quickness of it being edited together.

Totally weird. I remember being in sixth year, and having to wait until my mate brought me in his copy a couple days later. That usually only happened with the sky ones.

I had no wit back then though, so it's possible I got it wrong, but I was definitely in the habit of taping them myself on channel 4 at that point! Would have deserved a mightly slap if I missed it just by not checking the tv guide!

    Must find confirmation of this...............

No if you read this press release, it shows that Wrestlemania never moved to Channel 4. The Royal Rumble was the only one of the major PPVs that Channel 4 showed.

I hated Channel 4 showing the PPVs, they were delayed by 50 minutes and the signal for Channel 4 here is pretty crap. Anything controversial or risqué was liable to be edited despite it being on in the middle of the night.

On a sidenote, Wrestlemania X-7 was awesome :D

    http://corporate.wwe.com/news/2000/2000_02_01.jsp
STAMFORD, Conn., Feb. 1, 2000--WWE Entertainment, Inc. (NMS: WWE) has announced a strategically significant television distribution agreement with Channel 4 Television Corporation in the United Kingdom, WWE's most important international market.
WWE has sold 62 hours of first run programming for $1.136 million per year to Channel 4, representing WWE's debut on free national network television in the UK, complementing WWE's current 290 hour per year agreement with British Sky Broadcasting (LSE: BSY.L).

Channel 4 will broadcast 52 hours of WWE Sunday Night Heat, seen domestically on cable on USA Network on Sundays at 7-8 PM; and four, exclusive 2.5 hour replays of domestic Pay-Per-View events Royal Rumble in January, Backlash in April, Fully Loaded in July, and Armageddon in December. BSKYB currently broadcasts WWE RAW IS WAR, WWE LiveWire, WWE Metal, WWE SuperStars and eight 2.5 hour specials based on replays of WWE's other domestic PPV events.

As a result, Andrew Whitaker, WWE Senior Vice President of International TV Distribution, said the Company has become one of the leading suppliers of television programming to the UK market. David Kerr, Channel 4's Assistant Editor for Sports, says, "WWE is a ratings phenomenon worldwide, and is massively popular in the UK. This is a great opportunity to bring the action to a wider terrestrial audience. WWE fans in this country are being catered to as never before."

Edit: Here is more chatter about the Channel 4 PPVs http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=7245

I hated the Channel 4 PPVs. I was paying for Sky Sports already, and C4 had ad breaks. I never forgave them for cutting THE ROCK OFF during a promo (think it was RR00). I still blame Ms Kitty for C4 getting PPVs in the first place, and consequently started the trend of having to pay on SBO for PPVs :( I was fine with those English shows being SBO, but not the monthly main WWF ones :(

Yup. I had to get a friend who had Sky to record it for me. I remember because occasionally the info/guide box would come up.

Wrestlemania X7 was the gretatest PPV of the last 20 years in my opinion, but it was definately on Sky Sports. The only good thign about Wrestlemania these times in Undertakers Streak, which we will prob be seeing the last of next year :(

Well that's already stricken off WM next year, with the MITB PPV. The only thing MITB at next years Wrestlemania will be The Miz cashing in........and losing ;)

That's pretty much the reason why they made the MITB PPV. I think it was reported a few weeks ago that there would be no MITB at WM next year. No point in havin 3 MITB winners i guess

    Pain. In. The. Ass!
I remember hearing that they wanted to see how the MITB ppv went down to know if they will have the match taken off the mania card.
So when it bombed buys-wise, i assumed it was good news. :(

Having a MITB PPV and a TLC PPV makes no sense. Talk about overkill. The Money in the Bank gimmick had started to go past its sell by date in my view anyway.
