a tv card for a laptop

Am I on the right track here?
My first idea was to buy a satellite receiver in order to
1) receive hi def signals
2) record them

Now I am thinking of buying a laptop with a tv card .
Will this do the same job?
If the laptop has a tv out can I watch the programmes on the television in hi def? (as long as I have a hi def tv as well of course)

PS I was half thinking of getting a laptop anyway so I don't think of that as an extra expense

you can get usb tv receivers in Peats, Maplin.. online. I'd recommend looking into those, a hybrid one (digital & analogue), and make sure you can receive all the RTE digital signals. There are hi-def ones too. You could be looking at anything up to 100 euro (more likely 40-80 euro) depending where you buy. Once the laptop is receiving it, you can display it on whatever screen/monitor/projector/tv you like, as long as you have the cables and connections.
