yeah i know that guy too, could be an option anyway if it's repairable, or certainly a good donor if you found one mechanically bad but no damage...

I believe in the past few year there has been no such thing as a cheap mini. They make mental money

Just a wee storey,
have had this mini cooper ,94lying about me for ten years almost.
sat outside, getting old.
for the last year or so i cannot get it to start, it ran on easy start so no ignition problems, but no petrol getting through.

Asked a bit onhere but got some replies but no joy.

So last week signed upon irishminis.ie and related my problem, within hours had 3 or 4 replies, but better was to come,

a squadron of 17 minis was passing my way that weekend and some of them would call in!

Sure enough ,Ronan,Aiden and Keith, the posse, arrived in three minis, two travellers(no, the cars were travellers!) and a saloon.

Armed with a multimeter and brains, the men had my wee Mini running soon after.
a little box contining 4 relays ,one of which sent power to the pump was the culprit. I would not have found this in 100 years.

have some pics , will post later

a happy ending

Thats a great story Rugbyman.

All these stories of cheap mini's is getting me thinking that I could actually afford one.

As some are aware I've a great deal of time for any BL era cars but the mini has always been ruled out on cost grounds. I never thought they were worth what people were paying for them

Maybe the time has come to finally get one if they are becoming realistic value again.

If anyone knows of any more good ones needing some work done or locked away PM me.

Fuel pump relay is the bastard causing a lot of intermittent starting problems in the 928 too :D

I needed some virtual helpers (fellow 928 owners) and a good bit of googling to point me in the right direction :D

Those tricky Porsche engines, should have got a 924 with a real Audi engine :)

Engine, tranny and pretty much anything else mechanical is bullet proof. Tis the electrics that are the bastids :D

And if I wanted a VW, I'd buy a Golf :p

as far as i know you should be able to jump the DME relay in an emergency.
Jumper to run the car without a DME Relay. This will put more current through the ignition switch but will work in an emergency. Possibly too much so get it fixed ASAP.

this should also work on the 928,but don't hold me to it,do it at your own risk.

Now is a very good time to look for one. Mini's haven't been as cheap this for years.
I have five here at the moment and last month bought a '93 1275 with NCT and very good bodywork for €1100....2 years ago this would not have sold for less than €3500.
Stick a wanted post up on irishminis.ie (and ignore the couple of dreamers who offer a car for €5000).
There are often good deals on donedeal but with so many viewers they can sell very quickly.

Might do that MGBGT thanks.

The money has been mad for them in the recent past but if I could get an straight forward project to work on at weekends I'd be happy enough.

Not great at the welding but I'd be happy trying everything else. The mini is supposed to be great for novices when it comes to mechanical work

Here's one for €1400. the ad went up in august so he will surely drop down a bit if it still has'nt sold.

This next one looks like good value. The rust always looks a lot worse on white ones, can put some people off but at least you get a better idea of what state it's in.

Thanks guys,
I talk to the girfriend but she reminds me that she bought a punto 4 weeks ago and she can t have 2 cars :)
but thanks a million for ideas I never thought about looking in the normal car section I always look in the vintage.

She will probably keep the punto only for a year or 2 :)

I have to say that I would love to restore one, but I have to finish the Porsche first. :)
