Increase on fuel consumption??

We have noticed an increase in fuel consumption on the car 'computer readout' in the last 2 weeks. It was doing 6.8 -6.9 litres per 100km and now its gone up to 8 litres per 100km. The driving conditions are the same, no towing, no carrying anything heavy, same driver and same journeys, shopping/school runs. Its a new quashqai 1.6 petrol and we've had it since Jan til now. Has anyone experience of this?

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Go back to the dealer, as it's still under warranty.

Have you only noticed it recently, ie cold weather? If so, I assume with the extra use of the heater and car's demister, this might explain the increase in fuel consumption. Also, check all your tyre pressures, lower pressure in tyres also give low consumption.
Finally, I wouldn’t completely trust those computer read outs, best to calculate it manually to see if there is a problem.

Your tyres will have dropped maybe 4 or 5 psi due to cold weather -that will increase mpg along with the fact that most cars do less mpg in the cold anyway .

Do you change the engine oil and filter on time? If you go over the oil change interval you will notice a big increase in fuel consumption.

Most likely down to the cold weather...car taking longer to heat up. Happens mine every winter.

Quite normal. A good bit is down to the increased load on electrics. Lights on all the time, demisters, wipers, heated mirrors, etc ...all that needs quite a bit of current that your alternator needs to work harder for. And as the load increases on your alternator so does the power needed to drive it.
