Well as the title says ,

Watching the chelsea game now and every time the action speeds up there seems to be a second motion blur /stuttering effect .

I have a really good full hd set with 600Hrz and never have this problem on any normal Sky /RTE/ UK stations , even the HD ones.

Is this just an issue tonight or a normal problem with Setanta , I have not watched it in an age because the picture used to be so poor , but that actually seems to have improved bar this blurring effect

To save money setanta use a 5mb uplink to sky.. most channels would use 15mb or 12mb..

Its because of this that the picture is ****e.

3pm football on it with the analysis and commentary is very good.

Shame the pq is so poor, I turn it off a minute or so before the game starts and over to one of the HD channels showing it.

Wonder what the HD channel is going to be like

it appears setanta don't have the same fa cup rights as last season
it looks like they have same rights as ITV and a saturday 3pm kick offs and maybe a replay, espn maybe has the rest for irish eng fa cup rights

setanta €3.92 per week sub looks less value than ever

Pay TV should have to show annual and monthly costs on all adverts.
    About €205 a year, or €17 a month.

That buys a lot of DVDs.

If everyone boycotted payTV sport (and all Sky Sport % viewing time together is less than 2% of viewing), then the Free To Air stations would be able to afford the rights.

Stop feeding the Greedy pay TV operators for a season.

I can imagine BBC or IV making the concerted effort to grow a minority sport like darts to where Sky have in the past fifteen years. Wait, no, I can't because both destoryed the sport once already when it was exclusively FTA in the 1980's.

Even a situation where a FTA sports channel was set up to hoover up rights it'd invariably result in a cheaper service by the simple demands of ecomonics. Sky Sports is over-price, bur it's position has not only grown sports but continues to financially support then in ways no FtA station ever could.

The furore last year about European Cup rugby potentially being forced FTA in some manner highlights how important Sky Sports is to our own proviences and with the IRFU's serious money troubles as it is I'd readily question how anyone expects us to be compeditive at that level were we in a position to pay even less to secure players to contracts in a world where Irish teams are already fighting against huge wage increases for players playing in France.

It's nice in principal but in practice it creates as many problems as it solves because most sports aren't huge international moneyspinners like English football.

Sky's money has distorted Football to the point where it's nearly broken.

English football was a sleeping giant long before Sky got involved - it'd be very blinkered to think them paying what is obviously for them sustainable rates forced madness upon it.

It's the FA's job to solve these issues, not Sky's, and it's illustrative to look at how well the NFL in the US is managed despite it involving even more money from TV rights in many cases - it has salary caps and others mechanisms to prevent teams from blindly spending themselves to success or utter bankruptcy.

And what about darts, rugby and every other minority sport? Sky has its positives and to disregard them is just going to result in walking into a bigger problem down the road.

Er, there is no pay per view football in Ireland (and has not been apart from the brief period Prem Plus was in operation in the early 2000s). You can't "purchase" individual games. You need to take out a regular subscription to watch any football on pay-TV.

All of this is off topic, of course, as has every post on this thread other than the first two...

This is really an issue with for the Rugby associations (Internationally) remember the IRFU wanted to downgrade Connacht. Even TV3 start to bang on at how RTÉ would hover up the Heineken Cup Rights (surely the sports minister should at least ban such advertising on Stadiums and Sporting events) and that TV3 take an interest in sports. To think that a so called minority sport such as GAA league football has been supported by a Public Service Broadcaster with minimal investment and that they were able to help Grow Ladies' football. It's nice to see Setanta build on the taxes we pay, nice to see they are supporting Camogie but they have little in terms of minority Irish sports. Unless they are planning the Irish Dart Open at some stage.

So there is. I had never heard of it. Its not advertised on either Sky or Setanta's websites, and requires one to dig a bit in the UEFA website to find...but I found it...

    http://video.uefa.com/Video/Live/Competitions/UCL/Country=IE/MatchList.html

Would have thought the broadcasters would be glad of the revenue stream, but there you go. I have never seen it advertised on any broadcaster either.

Sky Sports is offered as an option in Ireland (confirming that they do indeed have rights here, albeit non-exclusive) but why someone would want to pay for a match that is on free on RTÉ or TV3, I have no idea.

Must be the best kept secret in football or broadcasting...
