Iridium sprak plugs

Anyone have any long term use of these type of spark plugs?

I decided to buy a set of Denso Iridium Plugs (these ones to be exact) for my Ford Escort. So far, I've noticed the car seems to be running somewhat better, the RPM doesn't dip as much when I press the accelerator (which is a big problem in my car), and seems to be pulling a bit better too.

They claim better fuel economy, which I hope they deliver on, as the Escort has got a bit of a drink problem! :D

I am not sure I know what you mean by the rpm dipping.
I used these plugs in my high mileage CLK 200. I did't notice any particular difference.
They have been in there for a while now and I will change them at the next service.

Used them on a few cars never made the slightest difference

I put them into my Integra Type R when I had it and cant say they made much difference really.

Supposed to last 60k miles on a set of them as oppose to about 20k miles on a normal set, much of a muchness with performance.

Hesitation maybe? My car ('98 Fiesta 1.3, similar/same engine) is bad for this, e.g. when I'm trying to overtake and floor it there's a few seconds where barely anything happens. Maybe these plugs only make a difference with crappy old pushrod engines? :D

There should be no difference with Iridium plugs other than the lifespan. I have a set of them with over 130K miles and still running perfect. The day I notice a hesitation, misfire or slowness to start, they'll get the bin, but for now they are staying where they are.

You must never put your foot down....:p

But good for you if they have lasted 130k. They probably welded themselves into the car by now. No standard spark plug wrench will remove them now:D

NGK Iridiums only lasted 5k at time in my old Bora :D great plug though.

I had them on a transverse mounted v6 to save time on future plug changes. Sold the car months later...

Topsy, you still have the bora gt tdi?

Had a set of these in my Carina, good for about 60K. That was two years ago, only last week i changed them again with the same. But taking them off i was ****ting it as they've been there for a good while and were very stiff getting them out, almost felt like i was unscrewing a plug that had been thread-rung. But they new ones went in without a bother.

But she's good now untill 241K miles :D

I was going to put iridiums in my ITR and at the time I was told not to bother because they have a short lifespan. I went with NGK platinums instead as I was told there is little difference in terms of performance between them and the iridiums unless you are seriously pushing the car on all the time. Ive been very happy with the platinums so far; I dont know what was in the car before I changed the plugs but there is definately a noticable difference with the platinums.

Yep, same problem as mine. Probably the real cause is within the fuel injection unit.

They come standard in 2stroke motorcross bikes, which are very highly tuned engines and can foul plugs very easily if the jetting is slightly off, however I never ever could notice a difference in the power, or life of using iridium plugs over normal ones, and at 30quid a pop for an iridium against 10 for a stardard one, i'll stick with the cheap ones!

I tried Shell V-Power in it once (back when it was available), it ran much smoother and seemed a bit more responsive too but fuel consumption was abysmal! I wonder if running them on some ethanol mix (maybe 30-50%) would make any improvement? I don't know what plugs I have, some cheap crap I guess (I plan to get rid of the car soon anyway).

Not that long, possibly 4 - 5 months.
