Retribution after being caught by Guards

Not sure if this is in the right forum, so please move to the appropriate one if not.

Had a rock thrown at my window today, leaving a big crack through it. Looked out the window and saw three non national teenagers play fighting and messing around outside, over heard one say "I hit the window".

I then called the guards, who took my statement, and then got in the back of the car to have a look around for the teenagers. Eventually I spotted them, and the guards got out to talk to them. When they got back into the car they said they were known to them and they were "scum". Decided against pressing charges, as their "families wouldn't care" as the guard said, and the fact they'd have my name too.

Now, I'm quite nervous about possible retribution for calling the guards on them, and seeing as they know the house is not easing my nervousness. The gardai said it is unlikely they will come back, but still feeling uneasy.

How common is retribution? Is there anything that can be done?

No offence but I'm gobsmacked that you could think there was a legal issue capable of an answer here (and you have my sympathy for what it is worth).

I think you know the answer to your question which is that there is no answer to the question 'How common is retribution' and as to what can be done - only what you have already done which is call the gardai.

I mean, you could go out and set fire to them or something but that wouldn't be sensible would it.

Well I couldn't find a "crime" forum that better suited the question. Hence why I said if there is a more appropriate forum to move it there.

I could have worded it a bit better, it just happened around an hour ago, so I'm still a bit dazed with the whole thing.

I'm astounded at your questions. I think more appropriate questions would be "How common is retribution where I live?" or "How common is retribution involving the families of these kids?" and no-one can answer these questions better than you or the local Guards.

For god's sake. How could anyone answer the question 'how common is retribution involving the families of these kids' ?

    Unlikely.

    They know
    a) they would immediately be in the frame for anything they did
    b) you would call the gardai

Probably the wrong forum. Ask in AH (where you'll be told that you are in mortal danger from marauding gangs of scumbags).

there is a way to deal with this. go to the gardai and press charges. you know who they are too. people these days back down from scum like this and then say well what can i do. give as good as you get. it a scumbag did that to my car i would put a rock through their house window and see how they like it. next time you see them let them know you are not afraid by staring them down don't be afraid. if you act afraid they then know they are getting to you.

    Press charges

They reckon they can get away with anything and by your inaction OP, they are right.

They know where you live but how hard will it be for you to find out where they live too.

    Lads/Ladies,

The OP doesn't have enough to 'press charges'. No one saw the window being damaged or exactly who did it. This is just one of those ****ty things that happens, and hopefully the fact of the patrol car shaking down the yobbos will soften their cough a bit.
