I'm in the process of looking for a 2006 or 2007 X5/520D/530D. I was going to go down the road of buying a repossessed car. Does anybody know how to go about doing this? Please don't go posting different makes and models to me as I have my mind made up on what i want. Any help would be appreciated.

I dont think you will find any great bargain. I havent seen any bargains on desireable cars. Certainly at the auction, you will not save alot.

Seen a few auctions lately there are bargains to be had but very very few a lot of people getting carried away and end up spending more than It would have cost them at dealers . Merlinautions are probably the biggest and they take trade INS but don't expect much for your car if you do trade it

Going to merlin in naas tonight , but they dont seem to have to much in stock. Crashed my own car last week and have a cheque from insurance company, so ill be buying for cash.

    Thanks.

Nice one to have the cash but be really careful don't get carried away what year you looking for/ how much to spend

Came across this earlier looks very nice for money but you might be looking for something newer

Blocked number plate and whats left of it isn't a standard Irish plate.

    Possible dodgy import maybe?

Good price though if everything is as it should be

Fair enough in that case but every time I see a blocked plate it makes me suspicious

Ya I'm the same usually when I see plate blocked , I'm not saying it's 100% i dont know but it's an Irish car

It was a 06 530d that i crashed , so want to stay with same year different colour. Dont entertain people who block out half their number plate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭dave45dave

When you go onto that donedeal ad it says phone C o Dwyer on such and such number , then when you google the number it says phone George. (Different names and blocked out numbers, think ill stay well clear)

I'd be just as worried that there is no mention of the mileage, unless I am missing something.

    i wouldn't touch a 520d with a barge pole

    535d or nothing!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭dave45dave

So i guess looking for a repossessed car is out of the question. I thought there would be a big yard out there somewhere full of cars, where i just go and pick. Watching merlin car auctions on line and nothing worth bidding on came through.

Thanks , i dont seem to be getting much help.

OP, we have the make and model you want but give people a budget to work with.

As said I wouldn't go to an auction however if you were prepared to go to Britain and do some leg work and research cars there are bargains to be had.

Sorry , have between 20 and 25k to spend landed.

Are you hoping to save money by buying at auction? If so, then I fear you may be labouring under a common delusion. If I were in your shoes i'd be looking privately both here and (if you can afford the extra time) in the UK. As johnos1984 said, an idea of budget would also help.

A bit overpriced but to give others an idea is this what you want:

Yeah preferably a sport model. Wasnt really trying to save money, just reckoned by buying a repo i might get up one year higher than whats on the forecourts.

You could be opening a can of rotten worms buying one from an auction.

If a garage is getting rid of it, its gonna be bad news.

If its a repo the owner won't of looked after it for a long time due to lack of cash

im not buying the car so why would i want to ask him anything.. what i ment was if i was buying a bmw diesel of that spec i would be going for the 535d. sorry for going off topic op..:o

maybe it would be worth looking up a few of the bmw owner clubs.. there might be some well looked after cars on them?? i would be wary of auctions a lot of rough stuff can end up in them. crashed repairs etc. also i believe that you cant test drive any of these cars?? you would be as well to look at a few private ones.. at least you can get a good poke around them and a good test drive..

I think the best option OP would be to try the UK. My brother imports cars from there and nearly only deals with 5 series. He currently has a late 2007 BMW 520D SE for sale which is the revised model going for €23k. Now I presume like most prices you could knock a thousand or so off that for a cash sale, and he will still be making a profit, so think of what you could get if you did a bit of research and went over yourself?

OP the price of a phone call wouldn't hurt to Dellys brother.

Even if he doesn't have something to suit he could find you one at a reduced price for a guaranteed sale

Nothing like waiting cash to motivate a seller ;)

That's my father's, it's 06, irish reg from new. He's just old school and doesnt do sites/forums, and was worried about someone copying the reg or something, i did suggest not to block the plates, but he asked me to so i did it. The car's in good shape, ha da lot of interest already, it's priced cheap to sell quick and i hope it will

    and thankyou davy_b

I told him that would happen but he was paranoid about having the reg there, he doesnt even like to be in photos on the net ro anything like that, and it took ages to convince him to not worry about a video i put on youtube that he was in, he just worries about all this technology stuff, if interested in the car call the number in his ad and view the car, in co. limerick. It's priced very well i think compared to a lot of them that are out there at the moment

Put a deposit on a 06 520 D m-sport , with 76k miles , full leather , auto , 19" genuine BMW alloys. 1 owner car from new in black. 20500 euro , i know its a bit steep but it has all the spec bar a sun roof. Anyway thanks for all your comments.
