Looking for some general information regarding the following:
Difference between someone (driving a motorcycle) being pulled over for driving in a cycle lane versus being in the cycle lane and pulled over for overtaking on the left?

If someone is pulled over for driving in a cycle lane can they be done for one or both?

If someone is pulled over for the former and given a warning can they later be fined (including given points) for the latter?

    From here:

I cant see any reference to "Overtaking on the Left" being a penalty point fine though someone can get 2 points for it. Is this correct?

Yes, you can be charged with both offences as they are two separate offences.

Note that if the cycle lane was bordered by a solid white line it is illegal to enter, though if it had a broken white line, you cannot be charged with that offence.

I don't think you have to be warned for either offence at the roadside to later receive a fined or fixed penalty for either. So he might warn you at the roadside for driving in the cycle lane, but upon further reflection doing his paperwork, he can decide to charge you with overtaking on the left (instead of, or as well as the original offence).

Yes it's illegal to drive a motorbike in a cyclelane and a buslane for that matter. I used drive bikes in heavy Dublin traffic and I had no hesitation using either as it's safer (in congested traffic) to overtake stalled traffic on the left rather than on the outside in the path of oncoming vehicles.

Do it sensibly and cautiously and you should be ok. I was pulled up on it once by a beat Garda but nodded told to go on.
