    Hi,

I had IPhone claim with O2 PhoneCover and its rejected. The reason provided is "I didn't took care of the product properly" which is ridiculous. Anyone can lose anything anytime.

"I lost the phone in Dicey's few weeks ago."

I think I been treated unfairly. Can anyone please guide me what should I do? Thanks

Thats pretty poor! I have only claimed from the o2 insurance once before cause lost my phone. Had to file a garda report but was no issues.

Does the PhoneCover not cover loss? So unless you said in the report something about not taking proper care of it I can't see that they could reject the claim.

In terms of what to do, i'd suggest ringing them and discussing it with them over the phone. Otherwise maybe the small claims court?

On an unrelated note, o2 never updated my PhoneCover, got a letter from PhoneCover sayng i'm insured for an iPhone 3G even though had just upgraded to iphone4. Rang o2 and corrected it so hopefully if I ever need to claim I'll get the correct replacement!

I had submitted claim form with garda stamp on it. Then they sent me another form to fill out in writing. I mentioned there that I lost the phone in a night out in Dicey's. "maybe it bounced out of my pocket while dancing". I dont understand what's wrong with that. I paid for the insurance and if I have it lost then I should get a replacement. I am seriously thinking of legal action if they do not sort it out. Should I report it to Ombudsman?

similar story to mine (there was a thread about insurance a while back)

its negligence (in the insurers eyes)

my phone was stolen from my jacket pocket in the pub. same thing - not covered.

cancelled my insurance and have never bothered since.

loss is not covered, only theft.

unfortunately you've given your statement to them now, so you cant tell them how it was really stolen ;)

Read the policy. Sounds like negligence, so probably not covered. The insurance is a bit of a scam but on the other hand so many people claim to "lose" their iPhone. Especially when a next gen model comes out.

It's a well known exclusion that they rely on and which effectively renders mobile phone insurance a complete rip-off. Essentially if you lose the phone in a public place which includes restaurants, pubs or taxis they will not cover you and since that includes 99% of all lost phone incidents it means that they can refuse the vast majority of claims.

I think that is a rip off. No one bother reading the FAQs and T&C. But as far as I know a friend of mine had a lost phone claim almost 6 months ago and he got a new phone.

This is outrageous. why bothering paying €9 every month, when you phone is not even covered.

So if you do lose your iphone the best bet for getting it replaced is a mugging? It is sharp business practices that creates the necesity to lie.

And if so many people are paying €9 plus VAT for a policy that doesnt pay out when required it is total fraud and should be reported accordingly.

Same thing happened with my own claim, but on my original cover letter loss was specifically outlined.

In the end I had to send a letter of appeal, had the decision overturned within 45 minutes. The best advice I can give anyone dealing with phone cover is to stick to your guns and if necessary make a formal complaint.

How did you do the appeal? They have asked me to send them the appeal in writing. Can you tell me what did you write in the appeal. I hope it will help. Cheers

Call phonecover and get the name of who you're dealing with firstly. Also get the fax number. Fax them a letter stating the exact circumstances surrounding the loss of your phone, including when you went to the garda to get a report and how you tried to recover the phone.

My appeal related to my apparent lack of care for the phone, stating that whilst in my possession the phone was cared for to the best of my ability, and that a momentary lapse resulted in the loss. I also dropped in that I would be contacting the financial ombudsman (http://www.financialombudsman.ie/) regarding the issue.

    End result, I WIN :D

Good man. Will give it a shot. I have already told them I would be contacting the ombudsman, so they should have an idea. But will state that in the letter too.
