I must been living under a rock for the last few years, but walking through town(Dubin) today, was walking down Abbey Street and in shock horror noticed that the old FAS building is now......a 'leprechaun museum'.
Im not easily shocked but it stopped me in my tracks as I seen the sign which which was over the entrance, 'national leprechaun museum' and not even in a cheesey way, it was real fancy and professional looking, even had a little man with stereotypical hat and pipe in gold as a logo.

All I have to say is WTF!!!!!

Is this some serious ploy by the state to have the leprechaun recognised as something real, because being honest Ive never seen one and always thought they were just a story, created to fleece stupid American tourists that visit.

Thats probably what is, we have gotten so broke and desperate we have created a leprechaun museum to shake down yankie visitors

i dont think its to promote leprechauns being real but more about the myth of them. but i still think its a f*cking stupid idea.

It epends what image they go with, if they go with the cheesey (which irish people sometimes have no problem in playing up to) Darby O'Gill version then they're morons or if they go with the image from folklore and how it ties in with very old mythology then that's not too bad.
Actually it looks to be departing from the recent incaratin which can only be a good thing.

Yeah, noticed that before and thought it was a bit odd. It's doing no harm and has a couple of people working though so feck it, why not...

Baader Meinhoffery to the max here.

I only heard about this this morning, and wondered exactly the same thing; Had I been living under a rock etc etc?

Someone I work with said he went to it. It's not actually even about leprechauns he said, just a 'history of Ireland' type museum. The name is bound to pull in the American tourists!

I went to it for a laugh. We were told Disney destroyed leprechauns... and saw some very big chairs. That was about it. Oh and at the end we got to exchange our gold coin for a pencil and a pen...
