    Hi
Plenty of threads about Boardmans but main opinions at the moment are:

    Excellent value for money bike
Halfords have a poor after sales service
Might be better waiting till new year when 2011 models are out as you should (in theory) see a reduction in the 2010 stock.

Yeah am tempted to wait as there probably will be a reduction to make way for the '11 stock, however I've been told that stock of the current range is patchy, their stock checker reflects this too, so if I wait they it may be hard to get one in my size(l).

So, at the current price, does the bike represent good value?

IMO price is about right for a alu/carbon setup.
Don't own one but know 2 people who have them that are happy with them. If it was me though I'd defo wait till 2011 - if the 10 stock is gone (and despite stock warnings it's halfords we are talking about) you'll prob get the 11 for close to the price anyway.

well, i have 2 vouchers, 1 is 10% off- this expires in a week, and the other is 15% off, valid for a couple of months- they can be used in conjunction with each other.

So, Im trying to decide on getting this for 665 euro, or waiting to see if the price drops down a good bit, then use my 15% voucher...

    or just getting second hand!

    For €665 I'd buy it.

Just treat it like an internet bike, i.e. get it serviced elsewhere.

    +1
Unlikely to be much less than that price even with a stock clearout.

    cheers...

on a side not, my mate is also interested in getting into cycling.

Like myself, he doesn't know a whole lot about bikes but he has narrowed it down to either the boardman, or a 2011 specialized allez sport(about 850 euro)

he can get the boardman for around the 800 mark I think.

so in a nutshell, which is the better value?

I have one though it was selling for a little less (e800) earlier in the year. Now I have changed nearly every single part on the bike but I'd still say it is well worth the money.

WARNING: if you do decide to wait for the 2011 model be careful that they don't do a Trek on it and drop the spec while holding the price. I think they may drop the 105 derailleur and perhaps go for a cheaper crankset if that happens. Or maybe they'll increase the price and make it fully 10-speed. Who knows!

    thanks for all the replies/

Can anyone confirm that the Boardman is the better spec'd bike compared to the specialized allez sport 2011?

Also saw an allez(base model) 2010 going for about 490..that bike has carbon forks too....I'm confused as to what to buy!

Look up the spec for each and list it.

I know little about bikes but can see the boardman has a better groupset.

I assume the rest of it, better too.

    Anyone?

I've had one for about a year very happy with it, In fact I just came back from cycling from a 1600km Rome to Lyon trip with it. :) Doneabout 200km a week otherwise since i bought it.

Just be aware, Halfords are not careful building it. You'll have to check things like the brakes (alignment if wrong is a very scary experience) general nuts and bolts, and gear alignment too.

Also bottom bracket started clicking about 9 months in, fixed with a service.

Also your definately gonna replace the pedals :)

Old thread, I know, but did you get the Boardman after? :)
