The ones on the ad breaks, not their own.

Why do they sound like they wouldn't be out of place on pirate radio ? Very unprofessional.

    Mmm. I see your point.

If that's the ad I think it is, it's agency . A bit of poetic licence methinks

    One I heard earlier was:

    Male: "C'mere for a cuddle"
    Female: "Urge... wats dat smeeellll?"
Voiceover: Bad breath ? you should try..."

I've actually no idea what he should try because I was distracted by how bad the ad was. Another one is for somewhere where you can "dress a naked man for the price of a suit & three euro". Again, no idea where this is, because I was distracted by -

    Mary: "oooohhhhhh naked mennnnnn"
Jacinta: "Mary, stop dat will ya..."

Amateurish & cheap sounding, detracts from the brand & also the station.

By comparisson, I actually think the (W)imax ad is one of the better ones, it's memorable ( an earworm) & works multi platform.

funny, I was just thinking about this this morning - that optilase ad sounds like it was made in 1985!

I always notice this when I tune in.

What about the guy doing the different accents for the freight company ad? That Optilase 'tune' is cheesy but I sing along nonetheless.:o

I've heard this quite a few times, but still don't remember the company that they're advertising. That must mean it's pretty bad..

I agree with tinyjiney too, if they have ads about being ad free, how is it ad free? :)

That one for some bad breath pills......

Heres what i think he should say..

    Him.."Hows about a kiss"....

Her.."uuhh...whats that horrible smell off yer breath"

    Him.."yer ma.....

    :D

Radio Nova are slow to pay voice over actors, having a 90 day payment period, some of the better ones no longer take work from the station, hence the low quality ads now.

wow...scrape the dust off this thread why dont ya.....:P

With Nova if Miller, Courtenay or Dooley cant do it then its not done...you know Dooley isnt even a yank...

I think that's one of the slogans that was used on 94.9 The Rock when it used to broadcast for the few weeks over the summer. "94.9 The Rock/Radio Nova. . .(bark). . .even the dogs on the street are talking about it." I used to like that one as well :)

What's with the 'echo / big room' effect on the Nova sound?
Happened to tune in (by accident!) in the morning and evening, and the sounds was like the DJ was in a massive room. Very odd and actually annoying!

As far as I'm aware Carol Dooley hasn't worked for Nova for years and a web search seems to suggest that's she from Kilkenny

Some of there ads mentioned seem to be agency and would be outside the station's control

what's the story with the mic being so echoey when presenters and newsreaders are talking? anyone else notice this?

That's when there are two cans (headsets) in a studio and one person is broadcasting. If the volume on the second (unused) pair is up high there will be an echo. When I'm on air I was originally told to turn the second set down to zero.

It could equally be the type of audio their sound engineer likes

Don't think cans is likely to be an issue unless they were extremely close together creating a type of feedback

Yep! I mentioned this in the previous page:

Not sure if this is the reason... It's very prominent during the afternoon DJs slot (Pat Cortney?) when he's by himself.
It seems like it's an intended 'added effect' to make it all seem atmospheric due to it being a 'rock' station.

Someone likes messing with their mic processor, I imagine.
