    hi there

im looking to book a flight with aer lingus from cork to the canaries in april 2011. lanzarote is very competitive , around 280 etc but tenerife is 210 each way every flight for the month. this seems strange to me as lanzarote is much more popular with irish people.

would ye think this is just standard pricing on the tenerife route as they havent actually priced it properly yet?

Airline pricing is a complex thing - airlines have whole teams dedicated to pricing flights at exactly where they feel they need to be.

but would you think that when all the days are the same prices, the team hasnt even begun to start the pricing system?

Nope, that's exactly where they've set them I'd bet :)

How do you know it's not as popular? Personally I would have thought the opposite to you, just from talking to people. Is your opinion based on some kind of data?

i just tried skyscanner.net and they are saying that the flights can be got between 150 and 200 return on the cheaper dates in April to Lanzarotte from Dublin, not forgetting that Ryanair also are flying on that route.

for a 4 1/2 hour flight thats not bad.

(boston to dublin is 5 1/2 on a good day just to compare distances!)

EDIT : I see you are thinking of flying from Cork. Maybe consider Dublin? Parking is for peanuts if you book in advance and with the motorway you are there in no time.

sorry, that was for dublin :o

Cork Tenerife is indeed an atrocious price

If I were you I would consider checking out package deals.
Those prices seem too out of kilter compared to the Dublin prices to be true.
Maybe its a case that package operators have block booked a wedge of the seats, so only a smallish amount is available to the general public at a premium?
(and thinking of it, it might be the reason that the summer flights between Germany and IRL can be such a feckin price during the summer, i.e. half the plane is already sold to german tour operators before they start selling tickets!!)

Anyhow, Dublin is no distance from Cork with the new motorway and theres very cheap parking if you book in advance online. Might be worth considering?

yeah i know. its just strange though that i was there on the mid term oct break and the flights were 250 euro. its just seems as if they havent done anything with the prices or somethign yet

anyway no matter, ill head to rome from cork for 110 euro with aer lingus :-)
