    Hey everybody,

just wondering has anyone any insight into working abroad in places like Greece or Ibiza or any of these holiday islands for the summer in bars/clubs?

myself and a mate of mine are considering heading away next summer but would like to have something lined up before we head out, any tips?

Obviously Ibiza has to be the destination of choice, basically you will have no problem finding work there depends on whether you wanna do the whole summer and risk burnout (ive seen numerous cases of this, people go ballistic on the persian rugs and partying every night and burn out and end up going home cos they cant hold down job or simply lose the plot, etc) or just do 1 or 2 months, if your working San Antonio/West End you wont really need much Spanish although you will need to learn the basics, if your working Ibiza Town or Playa D'en Bossa or Figuerates you'll need a bit more Spanish, regardless you'll have an absolutely amazing time, you wont earn much in the way of money enough to cover your rent and food, but if you do PR you'll get free drinks and free or discounted entry into the clubs as well as workers parties, etc, etc, etc.

You shouldn't have any problem getting DJ work either assuming your not completely crap:D a bar in Ibiza called The Orange Corner should be your first port of call http://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/night/reviews/2006/sananbarguide06_i.htm

bring lots of demo mixes but as i said if your in any way half decent you shouldn't have a problem, again the cash isn't great but as previously specified free drinks and free or discounted entry into clubs, birds, persian rugs, etc:D;)

    sounds good lads!

myself and my mate are willing to do anything to be honest, not going out expecting a set at Space or anything, willing to do some commercial work and that

is there any resource for getting in contact with bars before one heads out there? I really don't like the idea of just heading out and hoping for the best!

to be honest mate just heading out there and going into bars is the best bet, it doesn't really work getting in touch with bars beforehand, it's not like it's a normaL job or anything, get yerself out there and get some accommodation first and foremost then you'll pick up some work no problem.;)

Well man how ya keepin, I done this season in Ibiza, went out the end of May and came back in August, lots of my mates came back end of sept beginning of oct but there is only so much partyin and cheap Eroski vodka one can drink :)

You will have no problem getting work :) DJ work is a bit harder to come by, basically you would wanna head out there end of April as you can imagine how many people head to Ibiza with the same idea ;)

Firstly, book yourself into a hotel/hostel for a week or two and get yourself up to a bar called "The Ship Inn".

Basically its the place all the workers start off looking for work exchanging info and all that jazz..
It has a big notice board there with workers advertising looking for people to share accom. and so on.. Also has notices for people looking for staff its dead handy, you can get yourself a mobile phone with spanish sim and credit on it for €22 and yer man that owns The Ship Inn is dead sound and informative..

Def met friends for life out there, crazy summer :) Every evenin down to Cafe Mambos for the sunset which I do miss, vodka in hand, sexy biatches all over the place ;) happy fúckin days eh :)

3 of us went over and moved in with four girls who were advertising looking for lodgers was dead handy to get shared accom.. 40euro a week :)

You will meet loads of new people and you wont have to shed out lots of cash goin to big nights as workers who know other workers will get you on the guest list for almost every nite, i didnt spend 1 euro gettin into any of the clubs throughout the whole summer :)

Had a blast, goin back next year dependin on funds..

PM me if you need any more info
p.s bring enough cash to keep you going, the first few weeks are expensive

Like Danny said above, you need to get over early May really to have a chance at Dj work. Bring LOTS of pre-made Demo cds(bring a commercial one and one of your preferred style) and CVs printed off. Once you get over, check out every bar and see if they'd give you a trial.
To be honest, from my experience a lot of the established bars like Orange Corner, Bar M etc prob have their own djs from the UK that they have every year.

Be prepared to make **** all money, but cost of living outside of the clubs is relatively cheap.(Rent, food, alcohol can all be pretty inexpensive.)
If you're working in a bar, most will need you to get your NIE number(spanish pps) once you get over so you can pay tax.

All in all, don't expect to come back with any money, your sleeping pattern will be ruined from not getting to bed until 10am in the morning, BUT you will make loads of friends and probably have the time of your life. :)
Give me a shout on fb Conor and I'll try put you in touch with some folks.

I totally forgot about the Ship Inn yeah it's probably best to make that pub your first post of call although The Orange Corner is a good place to play as well as Plastik, etc, there should be enough information here for ya, lets hope this nonsense they are marketing as deep house goes away soon as well, atmosphere suffers in clubs.

That could be a bit late to go out. Providing you play chart/trance/r n b and the like you'll get a spot Djing in San An. Don't expect good mula tho.....
