Parking permit problem

I have an issue regarding getting a parking permit at my address. The issue stems from the fact that the permit will be for my girlfriend's car, as I don't currently drive so have no use for the parking space.

I was led to believe that the space could be used as I wished so my girlfriend filled out all the requisite forms which I then signed off on. However when she went to the city council to get the permit they told her that she couldn't obtain it as her name was not on the lease, they said the only way around this was to transfer the car into my name.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience of a similar situation and if so, is there any other way around it?

    Thanks in advance.

Where does your girlfriend live? Permits are for residents only.

You could ask for visitor permits. About 24 hours parking for about €2, but there is a quota.

"rent a room" to your gf.

then she'd have a lease at the address.....

Why did your girlfriend hope to obtain a resident's parking permit for an address she's not an official resident of?

They don't only accept tenancy agreements as proof of residency. Utility bills and bank statements are also accepted. As well as that your girlfriend will (if she hasn't done already) need to have the address on her car insurance changed to your address if she wishes to have a resident's permit, otherwise you will have to purchase visitor permits for her to use.

Cheers lads, think I'll look into getting some visitor permits, looks like the easiest way around things tbh.

I think you need to change your licence address also.

You need to send them a copy of your license but the application form doesn't say anything about the address on your license being in Dublin. Your insurance cert definitely does need to have the same address as the permit though.

Would cost far more than the €2 parking and you can tear the permit up if you want to :D
