    To which Ford tractor is a 655D engine (4 cylinder turbo) equivalent to ?

    How can this be determined ?

    same basic engine with tweaks over 20+years, but I really dont know

    do these engines have a chemical water filter (similar in size to the oil filter) to stop the block from becoming porous ?

    there is no way to stop the 4 cyl block going porous. ive seen block fails after 2 months, and seen some last 20 years ....

    So why did people continue to buy vehicles with Ford engines when they could get a perkins engine (or others ) without this problem ?

    MF had more than their share of problems too, and for the most part Ford tractors are very reliable and cheap to maintain. A new block every so often isn't a huge deal, and the problem isn't as bad as some people make out. I know of a few 7610s on their first day engines with no issues.

    The 3 cyl engine in the 4600/555 didn't suffer from the issue at all.
