It seems there is a bit of wagner x-factor style campaign going on here for Broombridge

And yet I love the fact at how there's no Hansfield, Dunboyne, or M3 Parkway listed...

Maybe if Hansfield did get listed, we could all go vote all 5's for that :D

We need to get all our momentum behind one station, be it Wellingtonbridge or Broombridge.

Personally speaking, I'd love to see their press release if Broombridge won.

Then the Last Word could highlight the issue of the state of the station.

Pick a station that is open or votes won't count but I'm sure the winner is already in the bag.

You wonder if there was a serious Wagner/Xfactor type campaign and Broombridge did actually get the highest number of votes, would IR have to acknowledge BB as the winner? Bet you not!

Slightly off topic but does anyone know why BB suffers from such a lack of passengers considering it has a large population catchment area of Finglas and Cabra on it's doorstep? Is it that the bus services in those areas are superior and more efficient to get into town? I know the condition of the station is offputting but if I thought it got me into town 10-20 mins quicker than a bus, I'd tolerate the visual unpleasantness of it.

No it doesn't, I told them about it on their Facebook page. So it could be either of our two reasons, or neither.

They probably monitor it though, why wouldn't they. DB drivers have confirmed DB depot mgt browse here...

Like Fianna Fail's tradition - vote early and often - as IE's high tech site appears to let you vote repeatedly. Broombridge is well ahead if my contribution works. :D

I used to vote religiously for my local station every year - but not this year. I am put off from voting for them because their staff are becoming more and more disgusting really. Here's some of my main gripes:

* Tiny shop at the end of platform charged me 4 euro for a cold (and probably very old) soft roll and a half warm / half cold hot dog. She had nothing to add to the roll, not even ketchup, and to top it all off, she "forgot" to give me the a euro back from a fiver - I had to ask!

* IrishRail staff, in uniform standing around in the platfrom smoking away and ALWAYS without exception flicks the cigarette butt onto the tracks, all this when they are just meters away from a bin.

* Casual and half-hearted attempt of PA on the platform, on the good days they decide to use it that is.

* Not particular to this station, yet, the horrible greediness of signing up with a private company to run the parking lot - who outright denies to hear you say anything but the credit card number, and all this while they have provided absolutely ZERO improvements to the parking facilities, which was the main argument when they started this scam.

/rant over, for now.

Broombridge +1 !

just had a thought, it doesn't say WHERE the weekend away prize is to... perhaps they'll reward the winner with a trip to the winning station

Apparently people have already texted "Wellington Bridge" before it was delisted and have been charged premium rate accordingly in a competition where they are now denied any chance of winning any prize.Talk about moving the goal posts in a competition. CIE you should have shame on your selves.

Pulled this off Facebook.:

Wellington Bridge Station of the Year

"Thanks for voting so heavily in support of Wellington Bridge. It seems that earlier today the Welllington Bridge option was removed from the drop down menu after a significant number of votes were recorded for the station.
I have queried this matte with Comreg as those of us who voted by text have been effectively disbarred from competing for a prize despite being charged for each text.
In the meantime you may wish to show solidarity with other commnities where there is areal and present danger that rail services will end soon. Please vote for Clughjordan, Roscrea, Tipperary, Clonmel and Carrick On Suir.
Regards"

Great to see Labour Councillor Joe Ryan still building his profile on the back of the South Wexford Rail closure, although I doubt he gets many votes from the areas served by the other two threatened lines.

A train station with friendly staff and pretty flowers is what you’d expect to win Irish Rail’s best station award, but internet users have other ideas.
“It seems there is a bit of Wagner X-Factor style campaign going on here for Broombridge,” said Oliver1985, a boards.ie user referring to others saying they were voting for Broombridge Station in Dublin.
Broombridge is an unmanned, graffiti marked station located in a part-abandoned area between Finglas and Cabra on the Maynooth railway line.
Commuters who use the station report of regular destructive behaviour. Users say they see scrambler motorcycles being driven on platforms and burnt-out debris in and around the station. Train users also claim the area is a hotspot for trains being stoned or bricked.
Another user, Terrontress, said with hope: “Personally speaking, I’d love to see their press release if Broombridge won.”
However, attempts to make Broombridge the station of the year are unlikely to succeed as shortlisted stations are visited by a ‘secret shopper’.
“While as with all text and internet polls of this nature, orchestration of voting can occur, all votes for stations will be registered and shortlisted stations will then be assessed in the mystery shopper exercise as detailed on irishrail.ie,” said Barry Kenny, head of communications at Irish Rail.
Irish Rail’s best station awards asks commuters to rate stations on staff helpfulness, customer information, the station’s presentation, and staff appearance. Kenny said the company hopes overall that customers enter into the spirit of the awards, which are about rewarding staff who provide good service and encouraging improvement in customer service.
Broombridge-155x300.jpgBut all those who rate a station will be entered into the prize draw. Kenny said, “Customers who submit any ratings for any stations, positive or negative, will be entered into the draw for weekends away and for free travel.”
On the issues at Broombridge, Kenny said: “Regular customers of Broombridge will be aware that there is a significant anti-social behaviour issue in the immediate vicinity of the station. Over a number of years, we have undertaken works to improve the station or replace facilities, but regrettably these have been subject to repeated vandalism.”
He added: “Overall, there would have been times when these issues have been worse than they are currently, but we liaise with Gardaí in our scheduled meetings to address such problems as they arise in Broombridge or elsewhere.”
Elsewhere, there are plans to develop the unused land beside Irish Rail’s Broombridge station. The Railway Procurement Agency wants the site to be the terminus for the Luas Broombridge line from Stephen’s Green via O’Connell Street. If the Luas line gets planning approval in December, and is then approved by Government, the agency will build a depot and stop alongside the current railway station.

Feckers never mentioned Wellington Bridge and IE's "disappearance" of same.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

If the purpose of the protest is to draw attention - I think it's already getting there. Also this would skew the voting for other stations - and they might get a surprise when they try and shortlist stations this year and usual favourites and/or expected ones not making the cut (because their customers would have been voting for Broombridge), which in the end would lead to some sort of argument amongst themselves and some of which might spill out into media again - and that will again bring more attention to the cause of Broombridge!

PS: Yes, Wagner FTW!! :D

I'm only voting for Broombridge, because they don't have the option for Dunboyne
