Career choice - Tax Consultant or Solicitor?

Anyone any advice on what route to take? The legal profession in Ireland is in tatters at the moment not only because of the recession but the issues facing solicitors regarding professional indemnity are also pretty horrific.

The introduction of Tesco law in the UK is also a worrying factor for someone who is thinking of entering the profession. Does this pave the way for Ireland to do the same?

On the other hand, the big accountancy companies appear to be attracted to law graduates for their tax departments. From, their websites it is evident that many of the Consultants are indeed law graduates. The career seems to have a fairly international element especially if you train with some of the big companies.

Can anyone offer any advice on this?

    Thanks in advance
