Howiye lads, bit of a ****e predicament here. Mate of mine was going to pick up his new passport as he is travelling thursday morning. But the gardai forgot to stamp the form that he brought in, and neither the gardai or the passport office notified him till now! He's been onto the office all day and they are adamant that he cant get an emergency passport till thursday evening, which is useless as itll end up costing him an extra 100 euro that he doesnt have.. any thoughts or anyone go through this before? or anyone know some really cheap airlines to edinburgh?!

Not sure if it was the right thread, but sure might get some good one liners from it anyway..

So instead of looking up airlines yourself you think that by posting this thread the good people of AH will look up the flights for your friend?
Would you like us to pay for it too?

Ah no, you're in the right place.

    1. Burn his house down.
    2. Ride his girlfriend.
Maybe try the Cork Passport office, less of a wait there but it will mean a drive down...probably end up costing €100.

He's going travelling but he doesn't have €100? How much drinking money is he planning on taking with him?

    Heres a line: I don't care.

And who says Howiye on the internet?

Surely he forgot to get the form stamped... He should have got the gardai to stamp it properly before sending it off. No point blaming the gardai about stamping it

    Buy a pair of earplugs.

I'm going to keep advising this in the hope that one day I'll stumble across a thread where it's relevant.

They can do that in a day.

I can't believe that they said this to him to be honest. I have been in the situation and gotten it quicker than your friend and recently a friend had to get his on the very day before he was due to go. Went in explained his case and got it in a few hours. It definitely can be done. Trolling maybe?

No but surely they should have realised their mistake and contacted the OP's friend to bring the form back in and they'd have it stamped immeadiately. They are public servants after all. This guy has college/stag weekend/football match to get to...the least they could do is help him out.

You said it the other day in a relevant thread and the poster started crying!

In that case it was everyone else who needed the earplugs.

Hopefully he's having a nice peaceful rest during his stay in Banland.

I got mine within 24 hours too. Perfectly willing to pay the extra fees too especially considering the alternative was I couldn't get on a plane if I didn't.

If he's only travelling to the UK I'm fairly sure he doesn't need a passport. Any photo ID will do.

He will need a passport if he's travelling with Ryanair.

I'm very much open to correction as I haven't done the passport thing in a while, but is one of the steps involved not bringing a form to the local Garda station solely to get it stamped?

How did your friend manage to queue up in a Garda station, tell him he wanted his form stamped, and then manage to leave without it being stamped?

I don't know. Part of me thinks this thread is a made up scenario, designed to make the users of boards.ie think outside the box and ultimately come together as a strong team with the knowledge on further, actual passport issues.

I can see it on the Ryanair posters now. "If you have any issues or suggestions, contact our customer service department at boards.ie/afterhours".

    Leary... you smart bastard.

Perhaps this is a thought exercise designed to bring us together and make us realise that the border controls we should care about are those in ours hearts....
    Guys, my heart's in Schengen.

Ajfunky, try Travel forum and see if others there may have had similar problem and how they solved it.

    Meanwhile, here a song

Don't let your mind wander. It's not stong enough to be allowed out on its own. :)
