Congratulations E-Soc! You've worked so hard for this and I'm sure you'll put your newfound status as biggest soc to good use, by providing for your members and contributing positively to the university.

Not really given they have the same coverage and appeal as a previous similar society with an equally absurdly large membership...

This begs the question, are there any other new societies out there who can go for "Best New Society" this year?

So what do they actually do?

It would be great to see something like the MIT 100k competition in DCU, http://www.mit100k.org, though obviously maybe a cut down version.

I fail to see the similarity between people who care what they look like and oompa loompas :p

Seriously though, the fact that the society exists is completely undemocratic. It has the same goals and members as E&S, who we all voted to disband, and even has the same boards troll as them. How anyone can say they're different is a mystery.

How do they give a good name to DCU? E&S Soc was a failure, and run by self centered idiots in my opinion. They dont deserve the recognition or the money. Other societies deserve to get it.

no no they deserve a lot of recognition. E&S made DCU what it is now. and Esoc will contine to improve the social aspect of DCU. The work they did with FM104 generated a lot of publisity for DCU. ah come on lads theyre a good society. admit it? how many members are redbrick on now?

Your just trying to advertise Esoc. Pity that most people only joined it to get free stuff. Esoc will have the same fate as E&S soc.

Is it? I'll happily slag some sub-human oompa-loompa type (Because they look fúcking ridiculous), and remain delightfully secure :D

*Runs back off to the reverse of DCU, only with more oompa-loompa types*

At last years EGM to disband them, almost every society voted in favour.

What will slapping on tons of fake tan help you achieve?
Or maybe stealing money for C&S use to go on the piss?
How about trolling an internet forum promoting ESoc?

That's right, you'll look like a complete 'tard.

they didnt rob money. fake tan doesnt make you disrepectable or change your intelligence so thats not relevant.

Yeah fake tan is grand on people, in small amounts.

You're looking at it the wrong way...

Trying not to generalize too much here, but... generally :pac: it'd be the, shall we say, less in-tune people that would paint themselves bright orange and think it looks fabulous?
I wouldn't have much respect for them myself, I don't know about others (but going by the remarks made in this thread I'd say they're about the same).
And if they feel the need to change something about themselves drastically, could you not say that they themselves feel insecure about something?
That would cause further loss of respect in my eyes at least.

No they didn't. No they won't. Very little publicity, if any.
Why do these E-Soc people always assume anyone who dislikes them is associated with redbrick?
Because when they think of "internet forum", they think "computers student", then they think "RedBrick".

Now I think we need to take things back to the topic at hand. If there even is a topic, because I see nothing to celebrate. I'd like to see this list and table myself, only the CV is hosted on RedBrick and they're down until power to the Hub is restored.

Why does everyone on this forum hate esoc?

    I really wish I knew.

I'm absolutely sick to death of this **** here. This forum used to be a great place to debate certain DCU issues but has been brought into the gutter by people with obvious agendas against certain groups of people (I'm looking at both sides of the argument here btw)

ESoc people: Redbrick are not your enemies. Not everyone on an internet forum are Redbrick members. I don't like Redbrick and want nothing to do with them yet here I am. You know full well a lot of people aren't happy with the way ESoc (re)formed so goading people by gloating about the number of members you got really doesn't do yourself any good.

Anti-ESoc people: ESoc exists and will continue to exist. Get. Over. It! You may not like the obvious similarities it shares with E&S, but what's done is done and no amount of internet bickering is going to change that. The fact you're not able to forget about this says a lot more about your bitterness than it does about any ESoc member. I didn't like the way they were brought back as a society but I'm smart enough to realise that holding grudges against them is utterly pointless at this stage.

Now, this thread is going to be locked. Not because I'm pro-one side or anti-another, but for the simple reason that there's a core group of people here that can't have any thread that contains the word 'ESoc' without following it up with fake tans, oompa loompas or stupid internet stereotypes. And until people cop the **** on and move on from all this then future threads will treated in much the same way.
