I am using a Mahogany colour on my hair at the moment (Nice n Easy) and I am finding that the red is fading very quickly leaving the colour a bit brassy. I have quite greasy hair, so I have to wash it every second day, does anyone have any tips for keeping the colour fresh? I am just using regular Pantene at the moment, do any of those colour protect shampoos actually work?

rinse with cold water, as cold as you can, even if it means some days you just wash hair over the bath and shower warmly seperately!

use a colour protect shampoo, and if not dont use regular pantene, i find it really strips the colour.

i use a revlon nutri colour creme http://www.ukhairdressers.com/store/details.asp?ID=Revnutricolorcreme was recommended here and i saw it in omni shopping centre a while back so i bought it! it leaves hair really soft! :D

also if u can, try using a conditioning semi permanent in between dying.

red is really high maintenance sometimes cause it fades so fast, it sucks!

oh and use a heat protection spray with uv protection too! and try out a dry shampooso you dont need to wash it so often, that way your colour wont wash out as quick!

    hope this helps!

Id get rid of the Pantene for a start! Try a shampoo for red hair!

Also I think Nice & Easy have a red conditioner that you can use between colours!

The joys of having red hair - its a killer to keep!

Red is the colour that fades fastest, so you´ll need a shampoo especially for coloured hair. Don´t wash it every day, but once very 48h. A conditioner for dyed hair will also prevent to colour from fading faster.

Thanks for the replies guys, i'll ditch the Pantene for sure. Can anyone recommend a good shampoo for coloured hair? Thanks for the recommendation for that Revlon conditioner ck2010, i'll def keep an eye out for that.

ive been using a V05 one i think its called elixer, i think, i could be wrong! its in a red bottle!
i havent found any that are necessarily good, just some do less harm than others- if anyone can name one that actually prolongs the hair colour it'd be amazing!

This is what I have found in the past when I have been red, I have tried a few and never found one that I particularly liked. Any suggestions would be great!

It's so hard to keep red hair red! I found mine used to just wash out of my hair.

I used Aveda Madder Root Conditioner. It's a bit expensive at around €27 but it lasted me around 2 months. I used it every second or third time I washed my hair instead of my normal conditioner and left it on for a couple of minutes. Be very careful with your hands and if you've a white shower curtain as it does stain. It's a brilliant conditioner and adds a loverly shine and a top up of red to your hair!

A sulphate/sulfate-free shampoo & conditioner will help as they are less harsh. TIGI Superstar is one example.
There's a thread about them on this forum somewhere.
