Hi im wondering would my upc hd box work if i brought it with me to my brothers house while i house sit for the weekend.

He has UPC but doesnt have sky sports so im hoping it works.

Or would it just be easier to bring the card and insert into his upc box. ( hope its not highly illegal )

    Thanks in advance.

I dont think either will work tbh. I think your card expects to be in your box, and both expect to be in your house! Its not like Sky in that regard.

If I was to choose, I'd bring my own box and card with me. Card will be paired to box.

if you bring the card and box it will work but only if he lives inthe same area code as you as far as i know but am open to correction

Bring the box and card. It will work in the Dublin area. I borrowed my friends HD box who lives on the southside and used it in my house on the northside (an area where for some reason UPC still say HD is not available). I was able to watch all the HD channels and the sports (and I don't subscribe for the sports, but my friend does).

Dont shoot me mods, Im not discussing doing anything illegal just pondering......

I dont think this would work on an ongoing basis? It may work for a few hours but surely the box will realise its not at the allocated ip adddress or line identifier (Someone more technical will know)

Otherwise whats to stop someone taking out a mirror subscription and giving the box to a neighbour/friend/relation who just has analog?(That Is In An Area Which Has Digital Available As Both Come Down The Same Cable)

There must be something in the UPC Stream to restrict the box to pair only with with the local node or customer address.Or There must be some upstream data taken by the network from the boxes to prove they are at least on the same node if not at the same address???

The box will work anywhere though if you go outside the region, say Dublin to Kildare, you would need to put in a new activation code.

But nothing to stop you moving the box as long as there is a coax connection to your brother's house.

Card+Box used to work across different segments on the same network (most of Dublin being 1 network, with many segments / cabled areas). Card+Box still defiinitely works on same segment, but I'm not sure about different segments (haven't tried in over 3 years).

Whether or not you break T&C doing this, I'm not sure either. I'd imagine for short term use like that, they won't particularly care (just like Sky don't care if you miss a few Multiroom callbacks every now and then). However, that's just an opinion that you'll need to research a bit if you're concerned about that side of it.
