Would a Citroen C4 2005/6 be reliable for purchase.

Some people have told me to stay away from Citroens ie.getting parts if needed.

    Would they be right???

This is going to sound negative but these are a few problems I experienced with the C4. My mom has a 06 Citroen C4 SX 5 Door 1.4 petrol, I drove it for about 2 years while learning to drive before buying my own VW Golf Mk4.

1: When the car was reversing and braking there would be a very loud squeal, it was recalled and the brake pads changed. Soon after the changeover the car continued to squeal every time the brakes were applied. Citroen didn't want to know and it still sounds like a truck when stopping !

2: We had to replace the key remote, Citroen wanted €250 for a new one which reluctantly We had to pay.

3:The latest problem was the ignition coil as one of the injectors malfunctioned causing the car to shake when idiling. Typical Citroen, the coil is one piece and if one injector fails all 4 must be replaced unlike my Golf where each injector is seperate. That was another €300 for parts and labour. We had to get this done because the Nct was due and it passed with flying colours.

Between the 02 Golf and 06 Citroen, although the Golf is older it feels more well built compared to the Citroen IN MY OPINION. You notice this when closing the doors on both cars. The doors on the Golf feel twice as heavy as the C4 and don't make a slight rattle sound upon closure.

    Ok Some positives though,

The Centre dash mounted digital speedo interface is far nicer and clearer then a traditional dash.

As advertised it is truely "Alive with technology" boosting many cool features and warning systems.

    -Speed limiter.
    -Cruise Control.
-Trip computer with KM to Empty,AVG Fuel consumption and live litres/100KM while driving.
    -A/C Climate control.

Hope that helps and don't be too put off buy the problems I experienced with the C4 as it is a very nice car to drive all the same.

I've a C4 Van, 06, 232,000km on it. Hasn't had any major problems to speak of, parts are no problem so no idea where you got that from...

I didn't get it from anywhere thats what happened and I wouldn't go to the trouble of writing it all up if it wasn't true.

I was referring to the original post, not yours. He mentioned a possibility of problems *getting* parts, of which there aren't any.

No problem at all, at least it gave me a reason to highlight the problems in a constructive way instead of just having a go at Citroen!;)
