:D Just thought i would post this here

According to The uk dept of health, these are the nine personality types of heavy drinkers:

De-Stress Drinkers use alcohol to regain control of life and calm down. They include middle-class women and men.

Conformist Drinkers are driven by the need to belong and seek a structure to their lives. They are typically men aged 45 to 59 in clerical or manual jobs.

Boredom Drinkers consume alcohol to pass the time, seeking stimulation to relieve the monotony of life. Alcohol helps them to feel comforted and secure.

Depressed Drinkers may be of any age, gender or socioeconomic group. They crave comfort, safety and security.

Re-Bonding Drinkers are driven by a need to keep in touch with people who are close to them.

Community Drinkers are motivated by the need to belong. They are usually lower middle class men and women who drink in large friendship groups.

Hedonistic Drinkers crave stimulation and want to abandon control. They are often divorced people with grown-up children, who want to stand out from the crowd.

Macho Drinkers spend most of their spare time in pubs. They are mostly men of all ages who want to stand out from the crowd.

Border Dependents regard the pub as a home from home. They visit it during the day and the evening, on weekdays and at weekends, drinking fast and often.

What is your opinion? Do you know of any other types of heavy drinkers? If so, which category do you fit into? :p

All of the groups seem to have some sort of psychological problem.. I think this whole thing is a load of shíte.. I don't fit into any of those groups but I do binge drink often enough

Where's the option for Deadly Craic Binge Drinkers who drink because they're deadly craic?

I think the conformist drinkers are far more wide-spread than the age group given.
But I have to say that I've only come across the female version of them since coming to Ireland.

This is a complete waste of time and money. You could narrow this to two categories: escapism or companionship.

Convergence theory of binge drinking: When the mood, friends, occasion, and supply all occur at the same time, party to the limit! :D

That term is on the way out now and is being replaced by alcohol dependance syndrome or just alcohol dependance.

Where's "get pissed and hope to grope and shag loose, sleazy women" drinkers?

I'm defo a craic binge drinker, though that's not exactly narrowing it down either.

Sometimes I have a few drinks of an evening to relax, but never any amount that'd be classified as 'binge drinking' by a non-prude.

Why do we feel the need to classify and justify drinking amounts for non-alcoholics? Most of us can handle it no problem and do so for fun and relaxation.

This is total bulls'hit. Psychological rubbish, everyone who gets drunk or takes drugs is responding to some underlying issue.
At times i've been a heavy drinker and also took loads of drugs, it wasn't in response to any issues, i was just having the craic!
I bet some poncey white coat got a big grant to come up with this crap!
Newsflash, some people just drink cos they enjoy it!!!

I think a few people have overlooked the word "binge".

A few drinks for the craic, or even one or two to many every so often, ain't an issue for most.

But bingeing and puking ain't normal.

Would any of you eat so much and deliberately keep eating til you puke ?

Or would you continue to eat something that gave you a sore head the following day or rendered you useless?

The highlighted ones are ones I probably fit into.

Also, I do consider the pub a home from home, It's where I can reliably find a lot of my friends, Jack, Jim, James, Arthur, Murphy, Carl, Good friends all of them.

    The competitive drinker?

"Nobody can drink a litre of vodka in under an hour"

    Challenge accepted!

Despite what my former employer and ex wife said, i dont drink too much.

Where's the catagory for those people, like me, who dont have a problem and who can quit anytime? My liver disease is genetic ill have you know. And my drinking flask makes me look quite charming.

I accepted a similar challenge with southern comfort :D

    Needless to say, I won!

But my victory party was cut short when i fell asleep in the pub toilet after projectile vomiting all over my friends. I also may have been sexually assaulted, but i try not think about that so much.....................
